Amberjacks have to be 34 inches in order to keep them, so that means these fish weight about 35-40 lbs apiece. Some averaging 40-60 lbs. They put up a great fight as you could imagine. I grew up in Destin as a child and loved to fish. I fished on the piers, in the bay, and on local lakes, you name it around here I fished it. I caught a 9 ft. bull shark on crystal beach pier when I was in the 7th grade. I was destined to become a professional fisherman and a Captain. I caught the first tarpon ever to be caught from a boat in Destin and then later caught the first one to be ever caught on a charter boat in Destin. I was President of the Destin Charter Boat Association for 14 years, served on the Board for National Association of Charter Boat Operators, needless to say I have been very involved in this business to ensure that it remains a viable fishery for all us to enjoy.
