Summer fish have arrived.

Trip Summary

Summer fish have suddenly arrived off Steinhatchee. For the past few months, if we dragged a cork upwind with a live or cut bait, we might get a big trout. But now the sharks have arrived. Yesterday we battled four sharks on 20-pound line, and had to follow three of them with the boat. They were energetic, jumping blacktip sharks. Fortunately, by the time we brought them alongside the boat, they were tired and refrained from jumping at close range. We had to leave a small circle hook in each shark, or risk losing one or more fingers while unhooking them. Though good to eat, my guys from Jacksonville said they had enough fish. And anyway the sharks wouldn't have fit in our Igloo cooler. Though the water was murky from recent rains, we landed 10 redfish and three keeper bluefish. Also about 15 undersized trout.
