Rough Weather on Madeira Beach Reef

Trip Summary

Three young men from Michigan fished with us on Tuesday, Nov. 24. I actually felt it was too rough to fish-we had a left-over swell from the north and a good 3' chop coming from the ENE all of which made for an uncomfortable troll, But we caught several fish in John's Pass channel which is always a good omen, then went to Mad Beach Reef where we trolled up about a half-dozen nice Spanish mackerel. We also hooked in to a "daily double" of Bonita, but both were lost, one early in the fight and the other next to the boat. As the bite slowed, we went to Treasure Island Reef and immediately hooked a nice Bonita which bled all over the boat. We added another half-dozen or so Spanish to our box. Since the weather was making a couple of the boys a bit queasy, we decided to troll the beach for a last shot. A few smaller fish were by Blind Pass, but we had what we wanted; some nice fish and great memories!
