Trip Summary

Fishing lately has been up and down. When the cold fronts come in the fish vanish. Most likely out to the gulf or in deep holes with more stable water temperature. Even there in these holes the fish seem to have lockjaw. Once the weather starts warming up though so does the fishing. The bigger schools of reds have disappeared but there are still large singles swimming around. On the really warm calm days we've been seeing large 100lb tarpon finning around on the surface of the bays. The snook seem to be way back in the freshwater where it's warmer along with a number of other species. We are coming into that time of year where largemouth and peacock bass getting more concentrated in the canals as the water level drops so its a good time to get after them. The bonefish have thinned out from their numbers in December but there are still a few around. Overall a productive time of year as long as you are in between cold fronts.
