Trip Summary

These fish move into our area from Mexico during the month of August and stay as long as the water temp is in mid 70's. This year we have had way more fish then normal because of our high water temp at offshore. Up to 78 degrees. It is rare to caught one of these fish in Calif. They jump and are really beautiful in the water with all there colors. Also great eating.

Departed the dock at 8:00, stopped by the bait dock and picked up some sardines and mackerel. Made our way down south in the beautifully calm water, saw a few dolphin as we approached our first fishing spot. Was a slow start to the morning, however started to pick up towards the end of our 5 hour trip with a very nice variety of fish for the day! Scuplin, calico, white fish, blue perch, mackerel, rock fish, johnny bass, and sheepshead! Tried a few different spots throughout the day ans ended it with a solid spot hooking fish every 5-10 min. Saw a few dolphins and kept our eyes out for whales. Fun day for this family!

Departed from the slip around 7:30am, stopped and picked up some fresh sardines and mackerel from the local bait dock. Steamed offshore to look for some dolphins and whales. Then we cruised in shore to catch a variety of fish for the morning. Sculpin, sheepshead, and some blue perch! Sun was out and the water was calm. Lovely winter morning of fishing for this family:)

Left the slip at 7:30 AM. Stop at bait dock for live Sardines then ran offshore about 4 miles to troll for Bonito. No luck there but a very large70 Plus lb fish jumped twice next to the boat. We then when inshore to fish for Bass. We ended up catching 28 fish of 7 different varieties for two people. We saw 3 different pods of Dolphins and one Ca Grey Whale on the way back. Great Day of winter fishing
