Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here and this week I have a great report for you guys, outstanding fishing but also some great weather as well. So this week the trolling on the reef has been very productive in the early mornings for mostly kingfish or king mackeral, the edge of the reef from 80 feet on out to 130 feet has been the most productive. Fishing baits under the surface using planers has been the best way to get some bites. Also just on the edge of the reef we have been catching quite a few bonitos. Moving just off the reef to depths around 200 feet of water we have been seeing some great blackfin tuna action. Trolling has been the best wait to get the tunas to bite in numbers but with trolling you are targeting all size tunas where as fishing live baits like goggle eyes and pilchards you won't get as many bites but the tunas you will catch are going to be alot larger in size close to the 25lb mark. Like I usually say its quantity vs quality so you have to decide what you want. While fishing for the tuna we defiantly have been putting a wahoo bait out just incase and lets just say it payed off big time this week, catching a 42lb wahoo "pictured". Also a fantastic surprise that is welcomed anytime. Moving a little further offshore there has been few mahi mahi around but not as many as a few weeks ago, still as I always say its very important to find signs of life like birds, seaweeds, floating debris etc. The ocean is a huge place and its best think of it as a desert and the signs of life you find would be considered an oasis. I would imagine as we move closer to summer time the mahi acton will continue to improve. Last but not least the wreck fishing for large gamefish like amberjacks has been very good, most deeper shipwrecks off the coast of Fort Lauderdale in depths around 200 feet are going to have large amberjacks on them right now. Live baits like goggle eyes and bullet bonitos are going to work the best and heavy tackle is a must if you want to land these hard fighters. While wreck fishing with live bait there is always a chance for a grouper or even a large snapper which is what makes it so much fun because you never know what you are going to catch. The month of May in Fort Lauderdale in my opinion is one of the best times to fish lots of great species to catch and usually very very nice weather, not as hot as summer but not rough water like winter time. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report has pretty much the same theme as last week, the fishing has been great and the weather has been pretty good as well. To start this week of we are going to start inshore, trolling the edge of the reef has been producing alot of nice kingfish as of late and a few quality bonitos in the mixl. The kingfish have been very nice sized averaging around the 10lb mark with some larger ones as big as 20lbs biting on the troll. Trolling with fresh bonito strips cut daily and a pink seawitch over the top of the strip has been the hot ticket as of late. Most bites have been coming on the deeper lines fished under the surface with planners but on our surface baits we have been seeing quite a few sailfish action too. Before we move offshore one other technique that has been quite successful right now on the reef is kite fishing, on days when there is a strong wind coming from easterly directions flying a kite with live baits suspended underneath it has been producing quite a few sailfish right now as well as bigger kingfish and bigger bonitos. Fishing with live bait is always going to get you less bites then trolling but the fish you will catch on live bait is always going to be bigger so you have to decide if you want quality of quantity. Moving offshore we have been seeing quite a few mahi mahi right now, like I usually say when looking for mahi if you can find something to fish to like birds, weedlines, or even floating debris you can't go wrong. When you can locate signs of life the predators are going to be close behind. Other then mahi the afternoons have been producing a solid bite of blackfin tuna right now. Fishing anywhere from 200-400 feet of water has been the best depths for the tunas and they have been eating mostly anything the trick is just finding where the tunas are, once you locate them getting the bite has been the easy part. There has been a few wahoo around as of late as well, although it is very tough to target wahoo in Fort Lauderdale this time of year it is certainly a welcomed by catch by all. Last but not least we have been doing a little bit of anchor fishing on the reef and the yellowtail snapper have been biting fairly well when the conditions cooperate. Anything from south east wind to east wind and a light north current is the recipe for picture perfect conditions to target these snappers. Anchoring in depths from 50-80 feet is going to be the best bet to anchor up for these snappers and start a chum slick. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great week of deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale we have been having great weather and some exceptional fishing as well, to start the report out this week we will start offshore. We have been seeing some excellent mahi mahi action right now in depths around 400 feet on birds and seaweed lines, the mahi have been biting best when there has been a heavy wind from the east and south east direction specially for a few consecutive days in a row. The mahi have been biting best in the morning time and surface baits on the troll have been producing the most action. The average size has been anywhere from 5-10lbs but there has been some real quality fish in the mix as big as 25lbs. Also offshore there has been a very good blackfin tuna bite going on right now from 200 feet on out to 400 feet. The afternoon time has been best for the tuna and if you can locate where the tuna are there isn't any problem trying to catch them, baits fished under the surface as well as top baits have been getting plenty of bites. While fishing for the tuna there is also a chance for a wahoo which would be the prized catch but that is more of a luck thing we don't see many wahoo this time of year but when we do it is always welcomed. On the inshore side of things live baiting with kites has been the best as of late, live goggle eyes fished from a kite has been producing some excellent sailfish action as well as some larger mahi and giant bonitos. Live bait is always going to produce more quality fish but trolling is going to produce more bites so you have to pick your poison. As far as the best bet right now seems like the afternoon trip has been producing the best results, tunas seem to be around almost every trip in the afternoon.
