Trip Summary
Conditions: Calm weather with winds of up to 12 knots. Swells are calm on average 3ft with the pacific side having more wind waves and colder water below 69 degrees. As forecasted the wind from Cabo to the Sea of Cortez has calmed and remains at a light breeze. Weather is pleasant low temps have been at low 60s and highs at mid 70s. Sunny days and few clouds.
Species: Striped Marlin, Sierra Mackerel, Dorado/Mahi, Roosterfish.
Fishing this week has been productive with a hardworking crew.
Striped Marlin: Remain relatively close to shore south of Cabo San Lucas to San Jose Del Cabo. The water on the Pacific side has cooled to below 69 degrees pushing the pelagic south into water that is 69 to 71 degrees. The bite on lures and dead rigged baits has slowed. The most succesfull hookups are pitching live bait to them from the bow once we spot them on the surface.
Dorado / Mahi Mahi: Scattered throughout the same general area hitting small lures, and live bait once there is a hookup or small school sighted.
YFTuna: Remain out of range for the charter fleet. Private outfits report them at 60 to 70 miles offshore south east.
Sierra Mackerel: Abundant inshore on the Pacific side. Trolling green hoochies.
Roosters are biting inshore on the Pacific side, a few miles north. Abundant live bait is recomended to drift fish for them.
Tips: The early morning and late afternoon hours are producing the best fishing. Live bait and lures in bright colors are working well.
Overall highly experienced and knowledgeable crews have best chances of catching fish in current conditions. High quality tackle has definitely been a factor in increasing odds of success.
