Trip Summary
There's a good snapper bite happening in Fort Lauderdale this month. The yellowtail and mangrove snappers are hitting in 40-90ft of water. A few mutton snappers are mixed in as well. We've been concentrating on bottom fishing over the patch reefs and shallower shipwreck spots that we fish. With the strong East winds, we've had this week, it's made it a good time for drifting. When we start deep and get pushed in with the wind, it makes it easier to hold the bottom than if the wind was out of the west and we were getting pushed deeper.
Groupers are biting a bit out there too. We don't catch a lot of them but we have pulled in some nice red groupers this week. Some really big reds were caught today and yesterday. Strawberry, coney, black and gag groupers have all made appearances in the fish box of the past week. Picking at the groupers is always fun and are a big hit when you catch them.
Good luck to everyone fishing this week. We're having some good days and some slow days, but most days are pretty good this time of year. Sea ya on the water,
Capt. Andy Roydhouse
