Trip Summary

The upcoming fishing season on Lake Toho is our peak season for the year mainly because this is the beginning of the spawning months here in Central Florida. January through March is when Lake Toho produces the vast majority of trophy-sized bass over 10 lbs and it is also our peak season overall for bass fishing here in Central Florida. The fishing is so good during this time of year because this is the time that the bass are in their pre-spawn and spawning stages which produce some of the best catches and some of the biggest bass during trips. Averaging 20 to 30 bass per day and good chances daily at trophy size bass over 10 lb throughout this period. Lake Toho produces more bass over 10 pounds than any other body of water in the nation and is considered the premier trophy bass fishing lake throughout the USA. The best methods for catching large numbers of bass as well as trophy bass over 10 lb are with the large golden wild shiners which range between 6 and 10 inches in size. During this time of year the big Lake Toho lunker bass become keyed in on large golden shiners before they go on to beds and spawn. This gives bass Anglers the best chance of any time of year to catch their trophy bass of a lifetime. Artificial lures can also be productive if you have had a spell of good weather in between cold fronts but the wild shiners are always the the way to get your best chances at trophy size bass out of Lake Toho. It is well known throughout the bass fishing community that this is our best time of year for fishing on Lake Toho for lunker sized bass, and this is also when our clients are looking to book trips with our captains to get their chance at a trophy bass. Because of this being our peak season we usually book up several weeks or even a month or so in advance with all of our nine captains. If you are looking to book it is recommended that you reserve your trip several weeks ahead of time or even a month or two ahead of time to ensure that we have one of our captains available for you on the day that works best for you. The summer heat is here and the bass fishing on Orlando's Lake Toho is heating up with it! The cooler morning bite has been the deal, as it always is at this time of year. Our captains have been averaging around 15-25 bass on our morning 4 hour charters. With bigger bass becoming more prevalent again like the 9 pound 11 ounce and 7 pounder pictured above caught with our captain Jay! With the heat we typically get at this time of year, the bulk of the bass and especially the bigger bass are pushed off shore in the deeper grass beds and brush piles. There isn't as much submerged grass on the lake as we've had in previous years so wherever there is submerged hydrilla and eel grass there's pretty much guaranteed fish on it. The best bite as always, has been on wild shiners. That's what the bulk of the larger bass are coming off of right now. But for artificials, zoom speedworms reeled over top of the grass and zoom flukes twitched over it have been what the bulk of the bite has been on. Chatterbaits have been working also, but only on cloudy, windier days, along with jerkbaits. It has been a great start to the summer so far for us and with the consistent weather we get at this time of year, the great bass fishing should continue for the rest of the summer. So if you're looking to fish Lake Toho, now is a great time to book. Spring has sprung and so has the bite on Orlando’s Lake Toho. With the cold fronts out of the way, the temps are becoming more steady and the fish are gorging themselves now after the spawn. The bass are beginning to school and chase bait to the surface in certain areas and 20-30 fish days are becoming common! The best bite on our charters has been on shiners, especially if you’re looking for bigger bass. But artificials have been productive also. Flukes, jerkbaits, senkos, speedworms, and topwaters in the areas the bass have been schooling have all been working well. As we move to the summer the bass have mostly all moved offshore in submerged grass flats. Good flats of hydrilla, peppergrass, and eel grass cover the lake. Once you’re over top of one of these grass flats, just get to fishing. Nearly all of these areas throughout Toho are holding bass right now, and keep your eyes peeled, as bass have been coming up schooling occasionally throughout the lake also. Lake Toho is setting up extremely well for the rest of the year and as the grass continues to grow throughout the summer, it should only get better. Bass wishes, Capt. AJ

We finally made it, the best time of the whole year to bass fish Lake Toho is finally here. And boy is it setting up to be a good one. With some good management by the FWC and some key spraying of some of the topped out grass on the lake, Lake Toho is setting up better than it has in years for trophy bass. This is the peak season to fish Toho mainly because of the spawn. During the months of January through March the bass on the lake begin filling up with eggs to spawn. Making the big one’s even bigger. Additionally, with the bass having “other things” on their mind, the trophy sized bass are more apt to making mistakes and are caught more frequently at this time than any other time of year here. As previously said, Lake Toho is fishing better than it has in years. Currently we’re averaging between 20-30 bass on our 4 hour charters with 6+lbers becoming very common. The spraying of the hydrilla on the lake has opened up some key areas that weren’t previously fishable. More spots to fish makes for much more consistency in the day to day fishing. The best bite, if you’re looking to get the most out of your day, is on large golden wild shiners. Live bait is by far producing both the best numbers of bass along with the biggest size day to day. If you’re looking for an artificial bite. Jerkbaits, flukes, chatterbaits, and speedworms have all been working extremely well lately in the offshore grass on the lake right now. You’re definitely not going to go home empty handed whether you choose live bait or artificials. This is the best time of the year to bass fish Lake Toho and with that being said, it’s also the busiest time of year for us. So if you did want to see what fishing Toho is all about, I would recommend reserving your day as far in advance as you can to ensure availability. Bass wishes, Capt. AJ
