Trip Summary
I had a client staying in North Venice so we fished the Englewood Stump Pass area. Wind was blowing 15-20 from the NW so it was set to be challenging day fishing but we got it done. We started fishing the deep grass flats on east side of bay where we caught multiple seatrout to 18 inches along with mackerel pompano and ladyfish. We moved closer in along the mangroves and landed two respectable snook and one redfish. We then moved to the mangrove Islands inside Stump Pass and worked the edge of the bushes hard. We landed three snook up to 28 inches. We saw multiple very large snook up to 36 inches that were just a little skittish and would not take anything we through at them. For the challenging wind conditions it ended up being a pretty good day but once this front moves through temps are to rise in the 90’s and all those snook we saw and missed will be on fire.4
