The redfish have been schooling up recently making the best time of year to target redfish while sight fishing. I have been seeing schools of up to 20+ fish cruising in inches of water making for a show. I have also seen and caught more 30+ inch redfish these past few months than I have going back years. The snook fishing bite early in the morning has been hot fishing small troughs stacked with fish. You might have to weed through some 24" fish to find the real big ones, but they still pull plenty hard. I've also been seeing some big tarpon cruising the shallows with their back out of the water feeding on mullet. This is one of my favorite times of year to fish because the weather is usually nice and all the species are active making it a great time of year to target a backcountry slam.

The offshore fishing has been productive this week! Anglers have been enjoying fantastic catches of mahi-mahi,sailfish, wahoo and tuna. The temperature changes in deeper waters have attracted schools of fish, making for exhilarating action. Many visitors reported successful trips with several mahi-mahi ranging from 5-15 pounds, Sailfish have also been making an appearance, providing an exciting challenge for those eager for a thrill. Fishing is starting to heat up as spring is right around the corner. During the spring bait is plentiful matched with good weather days and the fishing can be great. The redfish and snook were very aggressive eating artificial lures all day long for these clients. The wind was keeping us cool and the fish were keeping us busy. These clients got to experience it all seeing lots of wildlife and catch a bunch of different species of fish most of which were large. We saw tarpon slowly starting to show up on their yearly migration south so tarpon season is right around the corner.
