Captain Louis and his crew were amazing! This was our first of many to come. We caught a lot of blue fish, which were very tasty, as well as a few spanish mackerel. Grayson was really good about answering our random questions and all around a big help! 10/10 we’d do it again! Thank you Captain Louis!

The captain was very good at meeting our expectations for getting the kids out on some fish. We booked a 4 hour am trip. We fished for spade fish first and caught a few that my 11 year old daughter got to reel in.  My 6 year old son passed out on the couch on the ride out so he didn’t wake up for this part.  We also hooked up what was probably a black drum that straightened the hook on my daughter.  We were fishing small light hooks for spade fish after all.  The fishing was slow for spades, but that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching.  We then switch to trolling for Spanish mackerel and blue fish so we could get the kids some action before going in.  We hit a school of blue fish and were hooking up 2-4 fish every pass for a half hour or more.  I think the kids boated 15 bluefish.  My 6 year old son had a ball reeling them in and my daughter loves the action.  All in all the trip met exactly the expectation I laid out with the captain.  The captain was knowledgeable and courteous.  The deckhand was young, but he was enthusiastic.  My friend and I are both very experienced fishermen ourselves.  I have worked aboard trawling vessels and my friend has deckhanded in Alaska for salmon and halibut.  We are also both fish biologists so I can’t compare the deckhand to us.  He was knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. He also worked very well with both kids.  That’s what was important to me that he work to make their experience good.  We talked a lot with the deckhand about his plans for the future, and what brought him to being a deck hand.  All in all he was a perfect fit for our trip.  So for a 4 hour am fishing trip with kids, I give the captain, the boat and the deckhand the top rating.

Captain and mate were both competent. Mate on the younger side but was enthusiastic. Boat and gear could use some TLC. Battery system died about 3 hours into our trip which disabled the boat leaving us stuck in one spot while captain worked to troubleshoot system. Ended up calling a buddy to bring a new battery but we remained anchored in the same spot for 5+ hours. Not ideal since the fishing was sparse but we did manage to hook a few sharks.  I’ve been on our around boats for a long time so I know not everything goes right but batteries should never leave a boat stranded. Utilities should never run off the main cranking batteries and if they do battery systems should be rigged with an isolator to prevent draining the entire system. I’ll give the captain credit for trying to rig up the batteries to work in parallel to start one engine but without an isolator both batteries were drained.  I didn’t try to argue for a refund as we’ve all had bad days but this problem was preventable and hope it gets corrected.

The captain graciously answered all my questions before booking.  We only had 1 of 2 days to get out on the water and after hurricane Erin hit, we were not sure if we would get to fish at all.  The captain warned that the water may be alittle choppy but was not worried about it.  We went on a 6 hr afternoon trip in the Bay and caught many fish.  We had a great trip.  The captain and 1st mate both performed their duties ensuring a good time on the water.
