From the first view of the Kenai Lake and river I knew this was one of the most beautiful places on earth. Our guides, Brandon and Owen were so knowledgeable about the water conditions and the best places to fish. Their continual guidance on fishing techniques and lure selection was always spot on. Would highly recommend the 8 hour drift trip to anyone with any fishing experience.
Matt our guide was exceptional with us. He taught my brother in law how to fly fish and he caught the first fish. As well as all the fish that the 3 of us caught. We also saw great scenery as well as wildlife. We were all laughing throughout the whole trip. It was just a great relaxed trip with knowledgeable guide Matt! My next trip to Alaska will in clued another trip with JJ and Matt.
We booked a last minute trip to Alaska to visit an ailing family member. I couldnโt come without squeezing at least one day at fishing in. So, on such short notice and without a lot of time to plan I just picked a guide at random. Fate must have been smiling on me because I donโt think I could have picked a better guide with months of research. Brandon was an excellent guide and showed me an incredible time on the river. I will definitely do it again if I make it back this way any time soon.
We took a full day fishing trip down the river with Captain Mike and his dog Merle. He did a great job teaching two beginners how to fly fish and we caught on super quickly. We fished for salmon and trout and fished multiple techniques to get the fish to bite. It rained a majority of the time and was a slow day on the water but thatโs not the Captainโs fault (thatโs fishing). The views were still incredible! Mike did everything he could to help us catch fish. At the end of the day we each landed on the board, but wish we caught more. Again, thatโs fishing. Highly recommend this trip and would definitely come back again. Mike is great and knew his shit. Merle was a fantastic dog. Thanks Mike!

We pulled in one rainbow that was about 20โ.ย Brandon was great trying to put us on some fish given the conditions. This was my first fishing trip in Alaska, and Brandon was acting like a tour guide as much as a fishing guide, gladly answering all our questions about the wildlife/fishing locally, and pointing out things like Dall sheep in the mountains. It was a beautiful float and we saw a lot of eagles along the way. When you book a guided trip the hope is that the fish are hitting hard, but that aside the quality of the guide and the communication beforehand was spot on in my opinion. I would definitely book with Kenai River Trout Anglers again.
