First, Captain Phil was a great guy and we enjoyed him very much. The reason for my not so great review is this:
I booked a full day deep offshore trip. We started near shore. He gave us light rods and tackle and we would basically just stop and drop our lines in near underwater wrecks. All we caught was sheepshead, and small snapper that we threw back. He didnโt have any true heavy deep sea fishing gear.
He told us he had a friend that was about 25 miles out so he texted him and the response was that he hadnt had much luck. Therefore we didnโt go โdeep sea fishingโ. We ended up with 4 mediocre size sheepshead. His excuse was the water temps being lower than normal.
The real kick in the balls was my wife and i ate lunch at a restaurant literally right next to a harbor at Tin City. we watched another fishing boat pull in and proceeded to watch two crew members filet a ton of nice size fish! snapper, grouper, redfish, and some I didnโt recognize. They were ALL bigger than anything we caught.
I looked up the water temp for the area and it averaged 1 degree warmer than the day before when we went out.
This cost me around 1,400 (including tip) for 4 little sheepshead!

im sorry william it was not what you where hoping for , i think i do need to point out that water temp was not an excuse but a fact , we had just been thru the coldest temps in 16 years and the gulf was 57 degrees and had not even cleared up after the 30mph winds , and only very few fish feed in those conditions and tackle we used was more than adequate. as far as the boat you saw clean fish they are commercial boats that fish 60 to 100 miles out and depths to 180ft where the temperture does not...
