The weather shut down the trout bite and slowed the redfish bite, but still came home with 3 nice redfish ( 1 was 28”+). Captain John worked hard trying to keep us on the fish but they weren’t feeding. Bonus, we hooked up several big alligator gars, didn’t keep them but they sure were a hoot to catch! We will definitely be back!

Can’t say enough good things about Capt John Wood. He is extremely personable and knowlegeable with the Rockport fishing areas and knows where the fish are. Although conditions could have been better, Capt John immediately put us on fish and we were quick to limit out on specs and also brought in 3 nice reds between 25 to 27 1/2 inches. It was an all around great experience for our party of 4 and all highly recommend Capt John Wood.

We did a 6-hour morning trip with Captain John. He was very patient and gave us lots of fishing advice. We moved a couple of times when the action slowed. He definitely knows the spots. We each caught 3 22-23" Redfish and get to go home dreaming of a fish fry. ❤️

Captain John was exceptional. He was 100% about customer experience, not his schedule. Baited & casted for my wife and then let her reel'em in. Pleasant to have conversations with while we fished. Had specific spots for Spec's and then Red's, and we got some of both. He worked hard to make sure we caught fish and we got every bit of the 6hr trip we booked. He's an experienced, wise, and good man. We're coming back, with friends!

Highly recommended for serious fishermen or families alike. John knows the Rockport Bay and the pockets for Trout, Drum and Redfish in a variety of locations. He is also an educator on adjustments to your technique with clear explanation to improve your strike and catch results. First time we have fished with John but we will be back!

Target fish were black and red drum. It was windy enough to discourage Captain John from fishing some spots. We ended the day only a few fish short of our limits but not because we did not have enough of bites or fish on. I recommend always bring a wind resistant light weight jacket.
