My wife & I recently booked a half-day charter with Captain Rudy. First let me say that Rudy was very friendly, personable and polite. His son (who is usually his first mate) had gotten sick and was unable to make the trip with us that morning, which was not the biggest deal considering there were only 2 of us fishing, but it put more responsibilities on Captain Rudy. We had booked a 4hr trip from 8a-12p. We caught a small shark, a couple triggerfish, a couple grunts and one mutton snapper that was too small to keep. Bad weather (thunder & lightning) cut our trip short by about an hour and we ended the day with only 2 Yellowtail that were big enough to keep. Full disclosure - we were also boarded by the Florida Wildlife Commission during our charter (which is out of Captain Rudyโs control), but it was a little unsettling to find that his Charter License for the State of Florida was expired by almost a month. Overall there were no huge glaring problems with the day, but I wish I could say things turned out better - there were multiple issues (no mate, expired charter license, shortened trip) which unfortunately did not make the trip a very memorable one for myself and my wife. With those multiple issues we thought/hoped maybe a small discount would have been offered, but that never happened. We hold no ill will against Captain Rudy and we hope he gets his charter license renewed ASAP so his next clients do not have to undergo the same awkward encounter we did with the FWC. I would not tell other specifically not to book with Captain Rudy be cause my gut tells me this was an isolated incident and just a bad set of coincidences, but I will say we have done several charters in other locations and enjoyed them more.

First let me say that I am sorry you did not have a pleasant trip with me. In 11 years of being a charter captain I have never had a bad review before. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later, no one is perfect. I strive to give my customers the best trip that I can give. Unfortunately, there are times when the fish are not cooperating. I try moving to different spots that I have in order to try and find the fish. Yes we did come back a little early. The trip leaves at 8am and returns to the dock by 12. If there are fish to clean for the customer that time does go past the 12 pm . This is the nature of doing business. We were back at the dock by 1130 because of the lightning. (30 min early) I was going to fish one more area and the flash of lightning happened and you wanted to go in, and I agreed, Safety First. As far as the Florida Fishing license being expired, that was entirely my fault, an oversite. As I discussed with you on the boat I have been dealing with a very sick horse for the past 2 months, we didnโt know if she was going to make it or not so I was preoccupied and didnโt realize it expired Sept 13th. I renewed the license the same day. No excuse. I should have known. It will not happen again. As far as a discount, I do not know of captains that give discounts of the trip due to not catching fish or bad weather moving in. However, we can certainly offer a discount on a return trip, if you choose to try again. I am deeply sorry that you were not satisfied as my customer. My goal is to have all positive experiences and hopefully put some fish in the boat that you can take home. Once again I thank you for the 80.00 tip that you gave me. I hope your next experience will be better for you, whether with me or another captain.
