Fishing with Dustin, should of had info about commercial fishing
Dustin was ok. Nice guy, Went fishing on spots that everyone else fishes. Caught nothing. Now to be fair. I should of been told that commercial fishing started a day before my trip. Dustin said commercial fishing in entry to river really took a lot of salmon from moving up river and fish were sparse . This is July , salmon should be everywhere. If your going to go fishing check to see about commercial fishing first. I would of easily changed dates. I know it’s fishing but very disappointed.
I didnt see anyone else sockeye trolling. Yeah it was slow. But no one else was doing it.. dont understand how thats taking you to where everyone fishes. I decided to switch gears and try flipping for reds. Yes its july, yes its busy. There are no secret sockeye spots on the lower kenai river. Everyone knows every spot...we were extremly lucky to get the spot we did... When you initally booked i did try to move your trip to later in the week. And you had other things booked couldnt swing earlier or later. Sorry i couldnt magically make 50000 reds come up the river. If you ever decide to come back use the alaska department of fish and game website and look at the fish counts for 2nd run sockeye salmon on the kenai river and that should give you a better idea of when to book
