I’m old and ugly enough to realise that when you book a trip like this you could spend the money to watch the wake of a boat for nine hours and nothing else.  But what happened with our trip was the exact reverse. A quick trip to the fish market to get tha bait was just the beginning. That was incredible. When we cruised to the fishing grounds the boats facilities were comfortable and the crew friendly. It didn’t take long when the lures went in for the action to start. We started taking mahi mahi, my son and I hooking fish at the same time. A little later we were into skipjack tuna and we were regularly landing fish when we hooked the first of our 2 white marlin. The crew were both professional and helpful through both fights and we registered 2 catches. In all we had a mixed bag of about 20 mahi mahi and skipjack together with the two white marlin. As I say a once in a life time experience!

If you find yourself on the Algarve in July it’s a great time to target giant blue fin tuna. Apparently during this season the fish migrate from their Mediterranean spawning grounds back out to the open Atlantic, traveling routes close to the coast as they do. Bruno and Guilherme were very competent and relaxed captain and mate. Deckhands Goncalo and Bruno’s son (not sure on his name) were awesome young men, happy to talk some English because I’m too dumb to speak Portuguese. Goncalo even came to pick me up when I took Uber to the wrong pier (Bruno didn’t correct me when I texted to confirm it would be the pier by his tackle shop, nor did I receive any other pin). It was a fun day.  Obrigado!

Very friendly captain and crew with superb skills. Tackle was also only the best! They know what they do and they brought me directly to the Tuna grounds! We caught 2 large Tuna on a Doubleheader!
I hope that I can make further trips with this crew for white Marlin later in the season . Well done Bruno and crew?

Captain Bruno Sares and his crew provided a great Bluefin tuna trip for us! Very knowledgeable and professional charter fishing experience.  They provided everything needed for a day on the water. My boys had a trip of a lifetime on the Mandrake. Will definitely be back!

Although we had an off day with the Bluefins, the overall experience was excellent and a lot of fun. The bonitos just kept coming in one after the other. This trip is ideal for those who want to troll for Tunas. The Captain and the crew knew where to find the Tunas and although we were unlucky not to catch any Tuna, the trip yields results on most days. Highly recommended.
