Great inshore/small game trip. Tried a variety of tactics and had success catching good numbers and size of Bonito.

We had a superb day day with Temu charters and captain Anibel (sp?).  My special girl was very unsure about being out for hours on the open ocean.  Never a problem.  The seas were forgiving, the boat was perfect for the type of fishing I prefer… Low to the water with sun shelter and a very suitable, quiet Suzuki 90hp 4 cylinder motor… Quiet and smoke free. After about an hour run we spotted dolphins and diving seabirds… A great indicator of baitfish… And gamefish l nearby.  We lost our first strike without knowing what we had hooked.  Then in about 45 minutes of fishing we hooked the day’s prize.  An 80 pound sailfish, Sherry took the fighting chair.
She huffed, puffed and squealed until that big boy was nestled in her lap.  Then we turned it loose.  Only one fish landed, but that experience will live with us forever.

Anibel was a very friendly, savvy Skipper who kept the boat spotless.

Going fishing with this charter was a mixed bag of emotions, from disappointment to excitement. 

The Positives

We caught some nice sailfish, and the captain of the boat was very good and hard-working.  His English was excellent and he was a great to be on the water with.  The boat was clean and organized.  The boat owner (Temo) was responsive and quick to answer questions prior to the trip and he met me on the pier before we left.

The Negatives

I signed up for the Macho Banana boat for the fly-fishing experience.  That was not what I received.  When I met Temo on the pier he informed me that I wouldn’t be on the Macho Banana and that if I wanted to fly fish it would have to be the next trip I book with him.  I was surprised but didn’t complain because I wanted to fish.  He pointed out other fishermen on the pier that were going fly fishing with a different charter and showed me pictures of an angler that they had taken out fly fishing and had success.  It felt pretty awful for me to be denied the experience that I had signed up for and was expecting.  I clearly communicated this was my expectation when booking the experience through messages directly with the boat owner. 

Once on the water, I was not impressed with the lack of electronics.  The only electronic I saw was a handheld GPS that the captain used.  We got out to the deep water in good time and landed a nice sailfish.  After catching the fish, I was surprised to see my captain release it.  The booking said that we would be able to keep what we catch, but I guess not.  When I asked the captain, he informed me that they only keep dead fish.  Doesn’t make sense to me as I was hoping to keep at least 1 sailfish.  Later in the day, we got into a couple of sailfish, which was great, but once again they were released. 

Overall, I feel disappointed and I won’t be using this charter again or recommending it.  The only reason they are getting 3 stars is because the captain was very nice and he got me on fish.  The bait and switch in the booking of a fly-fishing trip, to be given a trolling trip was a big disappointment.  The advertising that I will get keep what I catch was false and anyone using this service should be aware of it.  I don’t mind catch and release, but that should be advertised correctly.
