Fly Fishing in North Carolina

There are few places in the world with fishing as diverse as the “Tar Heel State.” With hundreds of miles of prized Trout streams, numerous productive lakes, and access to sounds, bays, and deep offshore waters, it’s an angler’s paradise. If you’re looking for something a little different, however, follow a North Carolina fly fishing guide and test your skills.

Freshwater fly fishing in NC is world class. The Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail is the only of its kind in the world, and takes you to some of the best Trout waters on the planet. Brown, Rainbow, Brook, and the elusive Palomino Trout are all available.

Move towards the lakes, and there’s the chance of a Bass. Largemouth, Smallmouth, and White varieties make up the Black Bass trio, with Walleye and Muskies just adding to the fun.

When it comes to saltwater fly action, you couldn’t ask for better. Striped Bass in the brackish rivers give way to oversized Redfish and Spotted Seatrout in the bays and sounds. When the season hits in late spring, it’s all about Cobia who come surprisingly close to shore, while Tarpon take center stage in summer.

With so many hunting grounds to explore, your trip will depend on where you want to go. Head to the remote streams inland and you’ll want to spend a full day exploring nature. Meanwhile, following a North Carolina fishing guide in saltwater can see you spend anywhere from a few hours to a full day on the water. Just make sure to check whether you need to bring your own gear!

If it's raining and windy, don't go. Even the people fishing from the pier caught very little.

Better get a guide. Shallow water. Lots of shoals. Poorly marked channels. Tough navigating.

Driving from Emerald Isle to Sealevel puts you on fish faster rather than wasting time boating and fishing less time.

Spanish Mackerel and Blue Fish are what you're going to catch in August. Atlantic Beach is a family friendly town with a laid-back feel. The men went fishing this morning while the women had a spa day. A small price to pay for a summer day on the water.

Be prepared to see a lot of sea motion sickness! But crew is quick to clean up any mess. Crew request you to lean over and release the sickness over the water.
