Mongoose Striker Fishing Charters
Mongoose Striker Fishing Charters invites you to join Captain Scott Sutherland on premier saltwater trips in the waters around Vancouver. With nearly four decades of local guiding experience, he knows where to put you on the fish.
You'll fish from the 'Mongoose Striker,' a 30' Tiara widely regarded as one of the top charter boats on the coast. It comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests in all weather. Capt. Scott outfits the boat with quality gear and modern electronics, and she's moored close to productive grounds, so you spend more time fishing and less time running.
If you're after Salmon, this is the charter for you. Chinook (King) are available year-round, and while retention may be restricted at certain times and in certain areas, you can still enjoy the fight, take photos, and participate in DNA sampling. As summer and fall progress, you can also target and keep Coho, Sockeye, Pink, and Chum Salmon, depending on their cycles and migration.
Trolling for Salmon is standard in Vancouver. Rods, reels, and terminal tackle are provided. You only need to bring a copy of your fishing license, available online.
If you intend to keep salmon, you will need to ensure that you add a 'salmon stamp' to each license. It is recommended that you bring along any food and beverages that you like. Layered clothing is recommended, and sunglasses are a must-have. Upon your return, your catch will be processed/packaged, and iced for transportation in order to enjoy at the table. The most convenient and economical way to take your fish home with you on the plane or car.
The trips are a minimum of 5 hours & can be extended to any length if desired. The cost of extra time is $195.00/hr. The price for parking around the marina varies from $11 to $18 per day.

Weather was snotty. Fish weren't cooperating. Nevertheless, of the hundreds of dive and fishing charters I've booked over the years, the 1/2 day on Mongoose Striker is in my all-time Top 5. My kids (11, 9, 9) had an absolute blast. Time of their lives. All thanks to Captain Scott Sutherland. Knowledgeable, funny, patient, professional. Walked the kids through everything. Everyone hooked up, boated two, and Scott had my son take a DNA sample with a hole punch to the tail. Awesome. Two thumbs up.

This was an immaculate experience from beginning until end. Captain Scott has a perfect mix of knowledge, expertise, humor, and professionalism to make your experience unbelievable. Aside from catching a plethora of gorgeous and delicious salmon, we saw a family of orca whales and several bald eagles. The views are difficult to describe while you are out on those waters as it seems like a movie. Praying that my friends and I can get back out to West Vancouver to do it again some day.
We had an absolute blast on our trip with Scott. He's not happy unless you are catching fish and he'll do everything in his power to ensure you do. We battled 30kt winds and more logs than a beaver would know what to do with, still managed to land 5 of 7. His vessel is spotless, has the latest electronics and i doubt he'd run out of stories even on a full day trip. I can't say enough about my experience, book it and see for yourself. 11/10 would definitely fish with him again!
So happy with our trip! Boat was great but the captain was the star of the show. He was great with the kids, the adults, the fish, the stories. Highly recommend this trip!
I like leaving very honest reviews. PROS: -A very nice way of learning about this type of salmon fishing. -Great ship and equipment -Captain Scott was very commited to finding more spots to catch fish for us. he even gave us a little extra time. -cut down the salmon for us and gave us the not useful parts to feed the seals. (My kids loved it. -Brought 4 nice salmon back ! CONS: -I wish I had known the captain was a tobacco smoker. most of the time out there we were breathing cigarette smoke. And my nose goes super stuffy with it.. and 3 kids around. maybe I should have said something but sometimes you don’t feel comfortable bringing this issues up when it is not your boat and you are the guest. -he was definitely good and professional but I had this feeling he wasn’t particularly patient with kids. my kids are super well behaved believe me they did super well.. but still I didn’t seem paricularly convinced on his way of adressing to them. With kids you need to be extra nice if you are offering a service (I am not that patient with kids myself but I know what it takes ). He was good don’t get me wrong, there was just some charisma missing there.
