The MisStress is a 27’ Customized Aquasport w/half tower, Cabin w/ head, Single Honda 250hp 4 stroke (New in June of ‘16) and two GPS/Depth machines as well as ship to shore (VHF) radio. We fish from the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW / aka river) out to 35 miles offshore. ICW fishing is 10# spinning tackle and (usually) live bait for speckled trout, redfish, flounder, black drum and pompano (in the spring). And for catch and release fun fish like jack cravalle, lady fish and bluefish. Fly fishermen are welcome but must bring own gear. Offshore can be for sharks (up to 100 #s on spinning tackle), king mackerel, cobia and Little Tunny (aka bonita) behind the shrimp boats and trolling the beach in spring and summer as well as king mackerel, greater amberjack (aka reef donkies), barracuda, bonita, cobia, sailfish and Mahi-mahi from the near shore artificial reefs out to 35 miles (distance offshore depends on length of trip and what’s biting where). And (of course), bottom fishing(on request during the summer because the trolling is very good to OUTSTANDING that time of year) for red snapper, grouper, mangrove snapper, lane snapper, vermillion snapper (aka redeyes) and black sea bass (to name a few). Bottom fishing is good all year depending on the weather and seasonal closures (usually for red snapper and the shallow water grouper species during the winter months). I provide everything except your personal items and food / beverage. Beer is permitted booze is not (no glass bottles please). Kids are ALWAYS welcome on my boat. Be sure to bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat as well as a camera/cellphone for action pictures.

I've been told they have pictures of me fishing in a mud puddle in the back yard at 5 years old (and catching fish) though I've never seen these pictures. After serving 20 years in the US Navy, traveling and fishing all over the world, and, as a part time job, running the Navy's charter boat for Moral ,Welfare and Recreation in Bermuda for 3 years I retired in '90 and became a charter fishing boat owner/operator. I have literally fished all over the world. I have been lucky enough to fish for and catch Pacific Blue marlin in Hawaii and Atlantic Blue's in Bermuda, the Bahama's, Texas and Florida. I've caught sailfish in Mexico, Texas, the Bahama's and Florida as well. Now I specialize in teaching/instructing young (and not so young) anglers in light and medium tackle live bait trolling techniques, bottom fishing and light spinning tackle (live and plastic bait) fishing in the ICW and its feeder creeks.

We (Savanna and I) had a ball fishing with you and Mike this morning. After a little slow ride out the Kings really bit well with a limit (8) of schoolies in the box by noon. Hope everything goes well at the wedding tonight and we look forward to you next trip down from HotLanta.

Captain Guy was very familiar with the area and knew right where to take us to catch the fish that we were wanting.  Headed home now with a slew of fish for dinner.  Thanks Captain Guy and mate Savannah, this was a great day on the water.

Me, my wife and a friend chartered the MisStress for a 4 hours fishing excursion 5/7/17. Captain Guy Spear and First Mate Savannah did an excellent job of making sure the 3 of us caught fish. Capt. Spear is about as experienced as they come and knows the area like the back of his hand. He and Savannah showed extreme patience in teaching us baiting and casting techniques. From novice to pro, this is the boat you want to charter if you’re going to fish the St. Augustine area.

Amberjack and Cobia Live bait trolling

May 03, 2017

3/4 day offshore live bait trolling. Started by catching a well full of pogies (menhaden) then bottom fishing for grouper as the season had just opened. I guess we were a little late (say 2 days) for the near… Read Full Report →
