Absolutely awesome trip with Captain John and Chris! We did the half-day trip out near Block Island and had an absolute blast. We caught a little bit of everything, including mackerel, sea bass, and scup. Then came the highlight of the day, hooking into a MONSTER shark. We battled that thing for almost half an hour before finally getting it up to the boat. Easily one of the coolest fishing experiences we’ve ever had. Captain John was great the entire trip, knew exactly where to put us on the fish, and made the whole experience fun from start to finish. If you’re looking for a great half-day deep sea fishing trip around Block Island, I’d absolutely recommend him. We’ll definitely be back!

My son was turning 13 and he wanted to go fishing with a few buddies. I booked a 6 hour trip with JL Charters for myself, my wife, and 4 12/13 year olds. The communication ahead of the trip was good - Captain John gave us a heads up on what’s been biting and my son got to customize our trip from there. We ended up heading off the shore of Block Island. we started by catching some mackerel (bait), then did some bottom fishing and got a bunch of black sea bass, then we used the mackerel to catch a 7 foot shark that we tagged (all 4 boys got to fight it!!!), and then we did some more bottom fishing before calling it a day. Chris, the first mate, was outstanding! Him and John had some great stories and did a great job helping us fish, fileting our keepers, and keeping us safe. We caught a TON of fish. We can’t wait to go out again!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an incredible experience with JL Charters! My wife, my sister, my brother-in-law, and I booked a half-day fishing trip, and it exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we left the dock, the captain was professional, friendly, and clearly knew exactly where to find the fish. We were on fish almost immediately and stayed busy catching them throughout the trip. We landed a great variety of species, including fluke, sea bass, scup, dogfish, and robin fish. We brought home more than enough fresh fish for an amazing dinner! A huge shoutout to our deckhand, Sean, who worked nonstop to make sure everyone had a great time. He was patient, knowledgeable, quick to help with baiting hooks, untangling lines, and making sure we were catching fish. His hard work and positive attitude really made the trip even better. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, the boat was comfortable, and the entire crew made us feel welcome from start to finish. Whether you’re an experienced angler or it’s your first time out, I can’t recommend JL Charters enough. We’ll definitely be booking another trip the next time we’re in Rhode Island. booked trip as a birthday treat for my son 16th. The guys caught more fish than they had on any other fishing trip before. Captain and crew were ready with fixings for them to eat right on board - my son never knew he’d like sashimi, but he loved it! They even brought home enough fish for us to enjoy the next two days. Most importantly they had a memorable time they’ll always remember thank you JL charters! Genuinely a great crew to head out on the waters with.

Last minute I ended up joining my husband son and a few others for this fishing trip. I do get car sick but really hoped I would be good. Well 2 hrs in the sea sickness hit. Captain John and first mate Shawn were so kind. They knew how to take great pictures, they made sure everyone had a great time fishing and even found tome to check in with the sick girl. Next time I will stay home and send the guys. Overall experience was excellent and we plan to book with them again.

Special thanks to Captain John and First Mate Chris for taking our family out to fish around Block Island. We started our day with a slack tide and had success with bottom fishing. After loading up on some sea bass, we then tried our luck for some stripers. Our 9-year-old was able to land his first striper, and boy was it a nice one! These guys will put you on fish and are great with kids! We can’t wait to fish with them again!

Three members of our family recently went on this fishing charter, and they had nothing but wonderful things to say about the entire experience. The crew was professional, knowledgeable, and made the trip enjoyable from start to finish. The biggest bonus was coming home with plenty of fish! We can’t wait to book another trip and highly recommend this charter to anyone looking for a great day on the water.

Second trip out on the JL, caught almost 20 keepers and a number of others we released. Tuna, stripers, flounder and even a star fish. First trip we did was amazing and this 2nd trip was just the same. Highly suggest JL CHARTERS

Captain John Lee and his deckhand Chris are amazing! Planned an annual Tog fishing trip with the guys in RI and booked with them for the first time. Oh man, they didn't disappoint. They put us on some great fish, the boat limited out and we learned so much about the local fishery from these two. They were extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the whole trip. The boat was spacious and perfect for what we wanted. We are already planning a second trip with them for next month. Thank you again Captain John Lee and Chris!

Captain John landed us directly on sea bass to start the day. We then went to the other side of Block to catch bigger fish and were battling shark. Ended the fishing trip catching fluke and rock bass. From start to finish it was fast paced and a blast. One of my favorite parts was seeing the kids try fresh sashimi from a catch. Highly recommend Chris and John!
