She's back and better than ever! Based out of Wanchese, Back N' Black is your ticket to a memorable time on the water.
Back'N Black is a 53' Bobby Sullivan custom Carolina vessel built in 1987 and has been a prime sport fishing charter boat of the Outer Banks since that day! As part of the world's best charter fleet here in our coastal waters, your charter will enjoy catching Billfish, Mahi, Tunas, Wahoo, Bottom Fish, and even a Shark or two. With a new name and brand, the Black'N Black vessel has been re-powered with industry-leading electronics along with a Cat c18 1000hp engine enabling cruising speeds to upwards of 28knots.
The updated renovations to the main cabin of the vessel and brand new HVAC system makes for a very comfortable journey in between catches for any serious fisherman or family trip. The Interior includes 2 large sofas, TV, and a kitchen area with a sink, refrigerator, and microwave. Aboard the vessel during your trip the mezzanine seating provides a comfortable sitting area with sun and spray protection provided by the flybridge overhang to enjoy all the action one step up from the cockpit sole. Beautifully built into each level of the Back'N Black is an abundance of useful amenities for both creature comfort and fishing.
With many years under his belt growing up on our coastal waters, Capt. Derek will do his best to ensure you have a fun day full of fishing. Amazing trip on the Back N' Black

I can't say enough about the crew and the boat, we had an amazing time! Capt. Kenny Nelson and 1st Mate Kenny Koci on the Back N' Black are second to none. I have been on several fishing charters, and I can tell you from experience this boat and crew will do everything within their power to ensure you have the best possible experience. They put in the effort to put you on fish and will change things up as much as necessary to find fish and get them in the boat. Their knowledge of the ocean and passion for fishing is at the highest possible level.
The boat itself is a fishing machine. The deck area is massive, and the climate-controlled cabin provides a large area to cool off if you need a break from catching fish.
If you want the best chance to catch fish, look no further, this is the boat for you. We are already planning our next trip on the Back N' Black and fully intend on making this an annual experience. Thank you very much to the Back N' Black crew and will see you again soon!!!

We only caught a few sea bass, sea Robbin’s, and 6 Cobia of which 2 were keepers. But Captain Derek and Stephon really exhausted every possibility to get as many fish as they could for us. They were great!

Idk could give them 100 stars it wouldn’t be enough, after scheduling months ago with a diff charter that canceled 7 pm yesterday I took a chance and rebooked with these guys and lemme tell ya I’m sooooo glad I did!!! I Cuddnt be happier or more impressed with a charter then we were today they made a trip that we will remember forever!!!! Great crew fun polite family friendly and we will 100% be booking with them in the future !! Thanks captn Derrick and crew for the best trip we’ve ever had!!!!

Good times Graduation trip
Full Day Trip – Offshore on May 24, 2025 • 6 adults
Took my son out with Derek again for his graduation trip. Before we could get the full spread in the water we had a double header hooked up. Landed them both. Then the fleet consumed where we were fishing. We moved on and fished the rest of the day trolling for anything we could. Ended up with three yellow fin, a skip jack and a 23+ lb citation size false albacore. Ended the day sight casting to cobia before fuel pump issues ended the trip a little early. Great captain for the day and mate was excellent. Even with the snaffoo, I would definitely go out with this crew again, thanks for another great experience. My son had a blast one last time before college and heading to the Army.
