Hi, I'm Matt — the guy you'll find waist-deep in the surf. I've been fishing since I was a kid. With decades of hands-on experience spanning rock & surf, estuary, freshwater, offshore and international fishing, I bring a lifetime of practical fishing experience to every trip.

I keep things simple and personal. We meet up, chat through the plan for the trip and head to the spots that are actually working — not the ones that look good on Google Maps. I'll be there throughout the trip to help with baiting, casting, landing your catch and anything else you need.

If you've been fishing for years, I'll bring the local knowledge and experience to help you get the most out of the day.
Depending on the season and conditions, we target kob/kabeljou, steenbras, galjoen, stumpnose, spotted gully sharks, smooth hounds, elf/shad, leervis/garrick, rays and more.
I take care of all the rods, reels, tackle and bait for the day, so you don't need to bring your own unless you want to. I use fresh, quality bait — the same bait I trust for my own fishing — because good bait genuinely makes a difference.
I always encourage catch and release, especially with our key species, but if you land something that's legal size and within your daily limit, you're welcome to take it home.

Everyone over the age of 12 who is fishing needs a permit, which you can get online or at the Post Office.
I've learned this coastline through years of trial, error, early mornings and late evenings, and I'll use that experience to give you the best chance of getting onto the fish. There are never any guarantees in fishing, but I'll do everything I can to put you on the fish, and if there's a big one out there with your name on it, we'll do our best to land it.

We had an absolutely brilliant fishing trip with Matthew in South Africa. He went above and beyond from the start—getting out early to catch fresh bait and even showing us how it's done, which made the whole experience feel hands-on right away. We then headed to a stunning beach location where we managed to land a kob, and also hooked an amazing 5 to 6ft bronze whaler shark—unfortunately we lost it, but the adrenaline was unreal! Not long after, we hooked and successfully landed another shark, which made the trip even more memorable. Matthew is incredibly knowledgeable, clearly passionate about fishing, and made the whole experience enjoyable from start to finish. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and that makes a massive difference. 10/10 trip—would 100% recommend and we'll definitely be back to book with Matthew again!
We had two trips with Matt in the boat in the lagoon. The first by myself using live bait and prawns catching six different species including a large Garrick. What a day !. The second trip was again in the boat with my six year old grandson. Matt looked after him showing him how to catch prawns and live bait and then catch his first sternbass and stumpnose Thanks Again

We had such a wonderful time with Matthew. He is fascinating and highly motivated. We had a beautiful white sand beach almost entirely to ourselves. We even caught a 1.5m shark and a lovely stingray 😊. We highly recommend this experience—it was easy, very well-organized, and a highlight of the Hermanus area 🙏.

Matthew was very helpful and communicated really well with us. Unfortunatly the weather did not cooperate with us, or we would have loved to fish with Matthew. We plan to come back and will most definitely go fishing with Mathew again!

You can cancel or modify your booking up to 3 days before the trip date, free of charge. If you cancel or modify your booking later, or fail to show up, you'll forfeit 100% of what you've paid.

Pickup agreed upon reservation
Transfer to/from departure site may be available and included in price depending on your location and distance from the dock.
How you can pay
When the captain confirms your trip, FishingBooker charges your credit card a 10% deposit to guarantee your reservation.
The remaining balance is to be paid directly to the charter operator on or prior to your trip date in one of the following payment methods:
