Fishing in Boca Raton

One trip aboard a Boca Raton fishing charter is all it’ll take for you to fall in love with this lively city. Many records have been set, and even more smashed, in the easily accessible and productive local waters. The edge of the continental shelf has an irresistible draw for seasoned anglers, while novices get to enjoy world-class inshore fishing just a few minutes away.

Just outside downtown Boca Raton, you’ll find inshore grounds abundant with prized species like Tarpon, Snook, Jack Crevalle, Mackerel, Barracuda, and Shark. Anglers who savor the taste of Tilefish, Grouper, and Snapper will be blown away by the endless artificial reefs dotting the waters right off the mainland. However, the fishing truly skyrockets once you’re in the warm currents of the Gulf Stream. Here Billfish, Mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo eagerly await.

Incredible fishing starts just 15 minutes after departure from the dock. Even if you only have a few hours to spare, an inshore trip is worthwhile. Head down towards Miami and you could easily hook into Sailfish on half day trips. On a full day trip, you’ll be able to venture all the way to the continental shelf and enjoy the big game hunt for topwater predators and massive bottom fish.

The best place to look for charter boats is in the marinas surrounding Lake Boca Raton. The lake has direct access to the ocean, via the Boca Raton Inlet, giving boats located here the advantage of no wasted time getting to the rich fishing grounds offshore.

Rules & Regulations

If you’re fishing from a charter or with a certified guide, you won’t need a fishing license. Keep in mind that season open dates and bag limits on Florida’s Atlantic coast differ from those on the Gulf Coast.

Boca Raton Fishing Seasons

January

With the average temperature of 71°F, Boca Raton has a good stock of fish to offer. Trout and Bonefish are swimming inshore, while offshore fisheries produce amazing Sailfish.

February

The days are warm, but fishing is on fire. Head offshore to get Sailfish and even try some kite fishing if you’re feeling like it. Otherwise, inshore waters will produce Bonefish.

March

Do something special for yourself during spring break and head offshore to catch Sailfish, Mahi, Tuna, and King Mackerel. Back at home, Boca Raton waters fish well for Snook and Bonefish.

April

You can see a healthy stock of Mahi offshore, followed by Kingfish, and other Mackerel. Stay inshore to fetch Bonefish, Snook, Tarpon, and turn your spring weekend into a fish bonanza.

May

The heavenly taste of Grouper marks the start of May. Spring is in full swing and so are these big brutes. Amberjack, Wahoo, and Mahi are also offshore. This could be a quick getaway before the summer crowds.

June

The summer is about to kick off and attract scores of water lovers. Get onboard and sample some of the finest Tarpon action, or head offshore and fish for Marlin, Tuna, and Wahoo.

July

To make your summer vacation even more epic, head offshore and troll for Mahi, Marlin, Wahoo, and Kingfish. Inshore waters produce Jack Crevalle, but you can also get Tarpon. Bottom fishing is ripe for Grouper.

August

If you want to smash a record, be quick and get going. Offshore waters are rich in serious game fish, including Wahoo, Mahi, King Mackerel, and Marlin. Bottom fishing can get you impressive Amberjack.

September

The fall brings action-packed days with inshore canals and bays holding Bonefish, Permit, Snook, and Jack Crevalle. Board an offshore charter and you could be landing a fish of a lifetime in under an hour.

October

Sailfish come close to the shore and anglers board the boats that head to the Atlantic. You can also get Mahi out there, while inshore fisheries can award you with Permit and Sharks.

November

November will let you enjoy nice fishing for Bonito, Cero and King Mackerel, Sailfish, and Barracuda just a mile from the coast. When the water is calm, you can even snatch Mahi and Wahoo 5 miles offshore.

December

Head offshore and chase Wahoo and Sailfish, with Tuna following close behind. Trolling for King Mackerel can produce great success, while inshore fisheries are lit up with Jack Crevalle and more.
