Located along Florida’s Treasure Coast, this city is known for the riches it holds both on land and beneath its inshore, nearshore, and offshore waters. Wander through the historic downtown, stroll through the butterfly gardens, and then hop aboard one of the many fishing charters in Stuart, FL for an angling adventure you won’t forget!

Known as the “Sailfish Capital of the World,” Stuart’s big game fishing opportunities are plentiful. With the Gulf Stream just 10 miles from shore, you’ll come across Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, or Sailfish in just a four- or five-hour trip. Head past the stream on an eight-hour adventure, and you’ll be casting your line for Tuna and Marlin, too. Some captains even offer 10–12 hour trips, which will take you further offshore for bigger varieties like Swordfish.

If the main goal of your trip is to hook some delicious dinner, Stuart’s nearshore waters are home to a variety of reefs. Located 2–8 miles from shore, you’ll come face-to-gills with the likes of Snapper, Grouper, Cobia, King Mackerel, and Amberjack. A four hour trip is enough time for newbies and families to explore the reefs, whereas hardened anglers can opt for a longer trip to cover more ground.

Stuart is also an inshore fisherman’s paradise. With access to the St. Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon, you’ll have your line in the water within minutes, meaning that even a four hour trip yields plentiful results. These waters are rich with popular Floridian fish, including Snook, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Permit, Flounder, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Bonefish, and Tarpon. A full day trip will give you the option of targeting ‘em all!

Rules & Regulations

Hop aboard a Stuart fishing charter, and your licence will be covered. Some of Stuart’s species are subject to strict regulations, and your captain will make sure you’re fishing within the law.

January

Start the year off right with some light tackle action! Winter offers some of the best fishing for Speckled Trout and Redfish inshore. If the weather allows, you might reel in a Wahoo or Sailfish just 10 miles from shore.

February

Many Grouper species are off limits at this time of year, but you can still enjoy catching Cobia, Kingfish, and Amberjack near the reefs. If you head offshore, this is a great time to catch Sailfish and Blackfin Tuna.

March

The fishing inshore continues to look promising, while the action offshore is just heating up. Weather permitting, this could be a great time to go after Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, and Billfish.

April

This time of year is usually when the season for Grouper re-opens, turning nearshore reefs into a real hot spot for charter boats. Mahi Mahi and Kingfish are both at their peak.

May

May is a great time to be on the water in Stuart, whether you’re tackling Tarpon inshore or trolling the Gulf Stream for Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, and Mahi Mahi. Keep an eye out for upcoming fishing tournaments.

June

Everywhere you look, there’s bound to be good fishing. This is the perfect time to head offshore for Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin, Tuna, Swordfish, and more. The reefs and inshore waterways are just as promising.

July

July is a great time for some hard fighting action inshore, with Tarpon, Snook, and other species at their peak. Or sign up for the Stuart Sailfish Club’s Fishing Classic and bring home some bragging rights!

August

If you didn’t make it to the Gulf Stream yet, now is the time. Yellowfin Tuna and Kingfish are still at their peak, while your chances of landing a Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, or Swordfish are still strong.

September

If you’re fishing inshore, this is an ideal time to target Redfish, who will be emerging in greater numbers. Offshore you’re still likely to catch Marlin, Swordfish, Tuna, Barracuda, and Mahi Mahi.

October

With the peak season for Sailfish and Wahoo picking up, there are plenty more tournaments to come, including the Lady Angler Tournament. Meanwhile, inshore fishing is as good as ever.

November

Sailfish season is in full swing, and it’s not a bad time to fish for Wahoo or Swordfish, either. The reefs are still swarming with Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack, and more.

December

Weather permitting, this is a great time to head offshore. Sailfish, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Kingfish, and Barracuda are all enjoying their peak season. Keep an eye out for the light tackle Sailfish Tournament.

Someone who is not finished in this area would do better by using a charter captain to show you the area and techniques needed to fish here in which Captain Chris Murray was very knowledgeable and a excellent guide for such thing

The great thing is there are plenty of fish and because of the river system as well as the open seas you can fish most every day whatever the weather.

Really enjoyed the day. We used several fishing techniques and caught a variety of species (vermillion snapper, lane snapper, Goliath Grouper, barracuda, amber jack, and several others). The kids (16, 15 & 11) had a blast! And the adults did too 😊 I highly recommend

Captain Rob is great and easy going. We found the fish multiple times! Sometime they were bittin' sometimes not as fish do. It was a beautiful day and Rob took us all over looking for the bite. Saw one of the biggest Wahoo circling the boat and couldn't convince him to hook up. Took home some great snapper for dinner!

An amazing day as these guys know exactly where the fish are and will do everything to get you reeling them in. Bottom fishing got us Porgy, Flounder and a Triggerfish. We also collected lots of grunt to use as bait. Then we got going on the big stuff, with huge fish jumping while we reeled them in. We lost a lot but still managed to catch 2 huge barracudas. An amazing day and the guys could not have been more helpful and supportive. Best fishing day ever!

Really enjoyed the trip with captain Chris. Boat was well equipped with plenty of bait. Rods and reels worked well for handling the snook. He was at the dock and ready to go early and was on the fish. Hit multiple spots and didn’t hang out too long killing time if the bite wasn’t there. Captain Chris was friendly and patient even when we got hung up a couple times. I would highly recommend booking with him if you want an enjoyable laid back trip.

An awesome 3/4 day fishing with Captain Robwil! He put us on our targeted fish and we had a lot of fun catching some nice mahi and cobia along with other species. Still learning the area, but experienced enough to ensure we had a lot of fishing action. Thanks Captain Robwil, we will be back to try the off shore kayak fishing in Ft. Lauderdale!
