If you’re planning your next Great Lakes fishing adventure, Frankfort is a scenic destination you don’t want to miss. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the city features pristine beaches, spectacular sunsets, and fantastic fishing opportunities. So if you’re keen on catching some fish in this beautiful area, Frankfort fishing charters will give you all the local guidance you need.
The first charter boats start appearing in Frankfort around the beginning of May. In the early season, the waters are teeming with Brown Trout and Lake Trout, as well as some Steelhead and Chinook Salmon. With waters getting warmer, you’ll see plenty of Steelhead action near the surface, making this a great time to fish for these silvery torpedoes.
The beginning of summer marks the start of the Salmon frenzy. Big Chinook Salmon will be making their way through the waters, slowly heading closer and closer to Frankfort shores. Tough-fighting and absolutely delicious, reeling in a King Salmon is something every angler should experience. Towards the end of the summer, Coho Salmon and Steelhead action usually picks up again. As the winter hits, some of the local guides will start offering ice fishing trips.
For beginners eager to get a taste of Lake Michigan, or families looking to make memories, a half day trip will provide a great introduction to this amazing fishery. However, if you plan on fishing for trophy King Salmon, you’ll want more time on the water to maximize your chances. Charter captains in Frankfort are mostly located along the Betsie Lake waterfront, giving you easy access to Lake Michigan.
