For those in search of monster catches, there are deepwater canyons where Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna roam, along with White and Blue Marlin, Swordfish, and a variety of Sharks. The best time to go fishing in Atlantic City is from May–November.

Atlantic City Fishing Seasons

January

It's cold on the water in January, so if you're heading out, make sure you're dressed for the occasion. Striped Bass are biting hard in the bay, and you can also find Bluefish and Porgies.

February

The weather is still not great, so both the fish and anglers are laying low. Porgies are the main catch in February, with some Striped Bass, Tautog, and Bluefish thrown in.

March

The New Jersey fishing season starts in earnest in March. Blue Crab are open for harvest, and big Sharks are showing up offshore. The first Flounder are being caught in the bay, too!

April

Tautog are back on the menu in April, and everyone wants a piece of these tasty rock-dwellers. Bayside, Weakfish join Flounder, and Shark fishing is gaining momentum.

May

Black Seabass are legal to harvest from May, which is a great reason to fish the local wrecks. The Bluefish bite is really getting good by now, and trophy Stripers are starting to show up as well. The high season is upon us!

June

June marks the beginning of high season for shore anglers and offshore enthusiasts alike. Inshore, Fluke, Bluefish, and Weakfish abound, while in the deep waters, you'll find Mahi Mahi, Amberjack, some Wahoo, and the first Tuna arrive to the canyons.

July

As the weather heats up, so does the bite offshore. Yellowfin, Bluefin, and Bigeye Tuna are all in their prime and the Marlin bite is getting strong. There are also huge Makos roaming in the bluewater, so pack your heavy duty tackle for those long expeditions!

August

August is peak Marlin season out at the canyons, with both Blue and White Marlin in the spotlight. Swordfish are also on the menu, and let's not forget the fantastic Tuna action and lots of Sharks in these deep waters.

September

Fishing is still going strong in September, especially if you're chasing Billfish and Tuna. Inshore, things are equally good, with plenty of Flounder, Porgy, and Black Seabass for everyone.

October

The summer high season is over by October, and the offshore bite slows down towards the end of the month. But fear not, because the action close to shore is on fire. You can target Stripers, Blues, Flounder, Weakfish, Croakers, Tautog, Seabass, and Scup, to name a few. 

November

This is one of the most productive months for Striped Bass fishing, and the same goes for Tautog and Seabass. It does get cold on the water towards Thanksgiving, so make sure to dress warmly before you head out.

December

Enjoy the holiday season with a walk along Atlantic City’s landmark boardwalk, and when you grab some free time, hit the jetties. You might find yourself some nice Stripers, Fluke, Black Seabass, and, of course, Tautog.
