Fishing in Dry Tortugas

Hop on a Dry Tortugas fishing charter and get ready to target some of Florida’s most sought-after species! This small group of islands is smack dab in the middle of all the action, so you’re sure to be impressed with the number of options on offer.

Surrounded by reefs and wrecks, you can target Red and Black Grouper, Yellowtail and Red Snapper, Tilefish, Hogfish, Amberjack, Barracuda, Kingfish, and the list goes on. Just a short boat ride away, you can hit the Tuna grounds to catch prestigious Blackfin Tuna or go after other pelagic fish such as Blue Marlin, Sailfish, and Mahi Mahi.

Local charters offer half day, full day, and extended day trips. Shorter trips are perfect for families with kids or beginners, while longer trips are perfect for more experienced anglers. Extended day trips are for those diehard anglers looking to cover more ground and target a wide variety of species.

From Dry Tortugas, you can fish the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. You can also head to Sugarloaf Key Island or Cudjoe Key for some excellent flats fishing. If you have enough time, you should check out the Marathon Humps – an underwater mound teeming with Tuna, Billfish, and other pelagic species. Your options are endless!

Rules & Regulations

If you’re fishing on a saltwater charter, your license is covered. Otherwise, all anglers above the age of 16 must purchase a FL fishing license. Keep in mind that certain species, such as Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit are strictly catch-and-release. Other species like Grouper and Snapper are subject to seasonality. Regulations can change on a yearly basis, so it’s important to stay up to date and ask your guide if you have any questions.
