Fishing in Lake Fork

Just outside of Dallas, you’ll find a stunning lake known for beautiful nature and record-breaking fish. Head out with one of the numerous Lake Fork fishing guides and enjoy your day exploring this prolific fishery. It’s famous worldwide for its incredible Bass fishing opportunities, so you know it’s the real deal!

This is a large lake, so it’s no surprise that it’s blessed with abundant wildlife – you’ll find the views are gorgeous and the fish delicious. While it holds most of the Texas State Records for Largemouth Bass, and this is the main target of visiting anglers, Catfish, Sand Bass, Crappie, Sunfish, Bowfin, and Bluegill are all in the cards too.

Depending on how much time you want to spend fishing, and how badly you want to find that record-breaking specimen, you can book either a half day or a full day trip. A half day trip is a great way to spend time with your family, relax, and enjoy the views. On the other hand, if you’re looking to fill your bags, consider booking a full day trip to maximize your chances.

There’s a variety of places you can visit here, and you’ll find a fishing guide ready to take you out in most of the towns around Lake Fork. Sulphur Springs, Alba, or Yantis are all great choices for starting your adventure.

Rules & Regulations

When heading out to fish in Lake Fork, you’ll have to follow Texas state regulations. This means that everyone 17 and older is required to have a Texas fishing license. The lake also has special regulations for some fish, so heading out with a reputable guide is the best way to ensure you’re fishing within the law.

Lake Fork Fishing Seasons

January

During wintertime, the fishing is a bit slower, so you’ll need to work for your catch. You can always go for Largemouth and White Bass, as well as prized Catfish.

February

Catfish is the name of the game in February. They get pretty hungry, so whether you use stink bait or nightcrawlers, you’ll get one on the end of your line in no time.

March

Come springtime, the fish come out to play. There’s a variety of creatures for you to go after, with Bass biting hot. You can target Crappie as well, so you’ll have plenty of fish fillets for dinner.

April

April brings even nicer weather to Lake Fork, and it marks the beginning of the peak season. You’ll find that Largemouth and White Bass get really hungry, and going after Catfish can yield great results as well.

May

Largemouth and White Bass are the stars of the show in May, but you can also dedicate some time to fish for Catfish. A little hint – they love frozen shrimp!

June

By now, the temperatures have gone up a notch, and this means that Bass will move to deeper waters to avoid the heat. Going after Catfish, use trotlines with live bait, and you won’t be disappointed.

July

One of the most productive months to go after Catfish is definitely July. Crappie is biting hot as well, and you’ll find that Largemouth Bass can be hooked in the middle of the lake.

August

This is a great time to go after some of those big Largemouth Bass. Break some records, and gain some bragging rights! Crappie is also in the cards, and Catfish is always ready to bite.

September

Head out on the waters of Lake Fork early in the morning and you’ll be rewarded with some trophy Largemouth and White Bass. If you’re looking for a delicious dinner, use minnows to hook into Crappie.

October

October is a great time of the year to head out on the water and target some of the prized fish that live here. Largemouth Bass are biting hot, as well as large Catfish.

November

The temperatures might be dropping, but the bite isn’t slowing down. You can cast for Largemouth Bass, but don’t be surprised if you hook into a couple of Crappie along the way.

December

With the holiday season slowly approaching, use this time to unwind and have a nice day on the water. Catfish, Crappie, and Bass are all in the cards, ready to take your bait!
