Fishing in Redondo Beach

There’s a reason that Redondo Beach was chosen as the location for the legendary TV drama, Baywatch. But there’s more to this charming seaside community than golden beaches, crashing waves, and attractive lifeguards. Hop aboard one of the numerous Redondo Beach fishing charters and discover the rich waters of the Pacific.

Whatever you’re looking for on SoCal’s rich waters, a trip out of Redondo Beach will deliver. Fancy a fix of fishing? Hop aboard a nearshore trip to target Lobster, local Bass, Rockfish, Seabass, Lingcod, and Halibut. Looking to explore tropical islands? Head to the open ocean waters and come up against Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Marlin, and even Sharks on your way to fight Yellowtails and many more.

There really is something for everyone, with trips lasting from as little as 2 hours to as long as 18 hours on the water. A short trip will give you the chance to pick up delicious local species nearshore, with beginners getting to test the waters. Meanwhile, a full day trip or longer will take you to the famous fishing grounds of Catalina, Santa Barbara, and San Clemente Islands, as you make the most of these diverse fisheries!

You’ll find plenty of charters lining up the coastline from Marina del Rey all the way down to San Pedro and Long Beach. Wherever you are in the three-beach area, there’s a captain waiting to take you out, so there’s no excuse not to take advantage of the incredible fishing on offer in Redondo Beach!

Rules & Regulations

Every angler over the age of 16 must have a valid California sportfishing license. Grab yours online before coming aboard and you’re good to go. Other than that, there are plenty of ambiguous and ever-changing rules concerning seasons and bag limits. Expect the Sheephead, Rockfish, and Lingcod season to kick off around March or April, while Lobster can be caught from October through spring.

Your professional Redondo Beach fishing charter captain will keep you in line with all the other regulations, so you can sit back and enjoy some of the best fishing in the state.

Redondo Beach Fishing Seasons

January
Start the year with a fun-filled fishing excursion, when the crowds are low. Nearshore is the place to be, with Seabass, Calico Bass, Halibut, and Lobster all available for a warming winter treat.
February
It’s still low season in Redondo Beach, so you’ll have the pick of the fishing grounds to yourself. Bring the whole family along and engage in some fishing on the calmer waters nearshore, as you look to land something tasty.
March
Spring has sprung early in Southern California, and there are plenty more fishing opportunities with the rising water temperatures. You can now target California Sheephead, Rockfish, and Lingcod to add to the fun.
April
The nearshore season hits its peak in April, which is good news, as the offshore season is yet to pick up. Now’s your best chance to fill the boat with a range of delicious creatures and get plenty of delectable fish fillets for dinner.
May
There’s a reason that Long Beach holds its annual Seafood festival in May, with tasty nearshore fish in abundance. Bluefin Tuna start to make their way past the Pacific Coast for some offshore action, too.
June
Summer’s here and it’s time to head out to sea. Take advantage of the calmer conditions and the incredible fishing on offer around the islands to get your fill of Tuna, Yellowtail, and a range of groundfish.
July
Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi Mahi join the offshore party, meaning a full day trip to the islands will see you reel in a range of fish like nowhere else in the world. Make the most of summer and land that prized catch.
August
With school out, there’s never been a better time to introduce the kids to fishing. Hop aboard a nearshore charter to get them hooked, while experienced anglers can head offshore to try and hook Marlin.
September
There’s no sign of the fishing season going anywhere, so come and take advantage of the extended summer. Get your hands on a range of delicious fish and fire up the BBQ one last time.
October
Yellowfin Tuna are still biting in the deep water, with Yellowtails offering a stellar supporting cast. Don’t forget to turn your attention nearshore, though, with all the California favorites still going strong.
November
The offshore season is finally winding down, but if you fancy your chances on the choppy waters, you’ll still find some delicious Halibut. Otherwise, it’s Bass, Sheephead, Rockfish, and Lingcod in the nearshore waters for you.
December
While the season may seem overdue to the lack of tourists in Redondo Beach, there’s still plenty of fishing to be had. Go after Seabass, Lingcod, Sheephead, Rockfish, and many more for a holiday gift.
