Frequently Asked Questions about Fishing Charters in Azores
Fishing in Azores
Sitting a thousand miles east of Portugal’s mainland in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores Islands may seem a bit out there as a vacation spot. But if you’re looking for red-hot angling action, there are few better places on earth. Azores fishing charters will deliver everything you’ve ever dreamed of. From exciting reef fish to grander Marlin, everything is possible.
Starting with reef fish, you’ll have a wealth of targets at your disposal along these rocky bottoms. Oversized Bluefish, Amberjack, Seabream. Barracuda, Parrotfish, and Amberjack are all available. There’s even freshwater fish on offer if you head inland, with Rainbow Trout, Carp, Pike, and Perch starring in the stunning mountainous lakes and streams.
But the real exciting action takes place offshore. You won’t have to venture far, as you’re already out in the heart of the Atlantic. Within just a few minutes from shore, you could be going after Blue and White Marlin, Yellowfin, Bigeye, and massive Bluefin Tuna, along with a range of Sharks.
The beauty of fishing in this part of the world is that you’ll be on the fish in no time. Trips as short as 4 hours can give you a chance at each of the prized species here. However, if you’re intent on getting a Billfish “Grand Slam” or want to land that fish of a lifetime, consider spending at least a full day aboard your Azores fishing charter.
You don’t need a fishing license aboard a registered Azores fishing charter boat. But if you plan on fishing from shore or in freshwater, you’ll need a Sportfishing License or an Inland Waters Fishing License. These can be problematic to obtain as a foreigner, so be sure to look into it before buying that extra hold baggage for your fishing gear.
