Frequently Asked Questions about Fishing Charters in Washington

According to customer reviews, Miller’s Sportfishing, Wind Knot Salmon Guides, and 360 Fishing – Olympic Peninsula are some of the most popular fishing charters in Washington. Full list of top fishing charters in Washington.

The average price for a private 4 hour Washington fishing trip is $1,097, while an 8 hour private trip will cost you $812 based on prices on FishingBooker.com.

Miller’s Sportfishing, Wind Knot Salmon Guides, and 360 Fishing – Olympic Peninsula all received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Washington.

The most popular fish species you can target are Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Rainbow Trout (Steelhead). Top fishing techniques include Light Tackle, Drift Fishing, and Trolling. River fishing, lake fishing, and nearshore fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

What if we tell you that there’s an outdoor paradise waiting to be discovered? Washington State isn’t only blessed with thick evergreen forests, but with acres of pristine waters and fishing opportunities as well. With thousands of lakes, miles of rivers, and ocean access this ‘’Evergreen State’’ is truly an angler’s heaven. And Washington State fishing charters are among the best guides to show you around.

The State of Washington is one of just two places on the continent where you can catch all five species of Pacific Salmon – Chinook, Coho, Pink, Sockeye, and Chum! The saltwater scene might not be as expansive as the freshwater, but it’s certainly as productive with Albacore Tuna as its crown jewel. While summer and fall are more promising, Washington State is a year-round angling playground.

Whether you’re exploring Puget Sound, the coastal region, or the southwest area, Washington fishing charters will showcase everything the Pacific Northwest is known for. But for you to be able to enjoy the day in nature and go after your dream catch, a half day trip won’t do. The sweet spot is an 8 hour trip! For Albacore Tuna, we recommend longer offshore outings.

The productive waters in the western part of the state attract upwards of 100,000 anglers annually. If you’re unsure why this is the case, team up with a local guide and begin exploring Puget Sound. Once you’re ready for the next level of fishing, head to Westport for the Tuna adrenaline rush or check out any of the lakes during winter to experience ice fishing.

Rules & Regulations

Washington State welcomes anglers aged 15 and older from all over the world as long as they have a fishing license. Youths aged 14 and younger don’t need a fishing license but a Catch Record Card is a must. Veterans and residents with disabilities qualify for reduced fees. Don’t shy away from exploring Washington State’s fishing rules and regulations in more detail before heading out.

January

When a new year gets going, most anglers will be busy going after Blackmouth Salmon to notice. Join them and see for yourself what the fuss is about.

February

Come February, Puget Sound is swarming with Blackmouth Salmon and Cutthroat Trout. Anglers in places like Seattle and Tacoma will be all over the piers catching Squid.

March

Winter might be over and done with, but the Chinook bite is still going strong. Out in the jetties, get ready for some awesome Lingcod fishing.

April

April is when the winter Chinook fishing dies down, and the harvest season draws to a close. On the bright side, the time for spring Salmon is upon us.

May

If you’re up for some bottom fishing, there’s hardly a better time to get started. With Rockfish, Lingcod, and Flounder, what else do you need?

June

Did somebody say Summer Steelhead? Head on down to the Columbia River and fish your heart out. In Seattle, Lingcod season is about to end in a week or two into June.

July

Anglers in Puget Sound are getting ready for the up and coming Salmon season there, while Westport is in the middle of the traditional Albacore summer rush.

August

There’s not a bad place to go fishing in Washington during August. Saltwater or freshwater, rivers or lakes, conventional or fly, feel free to run with it.

September

The wonderful variety of fishing all over Washington continues to enthrall anglers all over, especially over at Puget Sound. It’s Salmon fishing season at its absolute finest.

October

October usually marks the end of lake fishing, with anglers switching to rivers if they haven’t already. The winter Steelhead run is just around the corner.

November

Blackmouth Salmon is the star attraction in Puget Sound this time of year. At the same time, anglers from all over are going crazy about winter Steelhead.

December

Sturgeon and Steelhead rule the river waters in December. Not that anybody’s complaining. There’s nothing quite like fishing to keep you warm during the cold days.

Could just be the season but there was a ton of bait fish but also almost an infestation of dog sharks who would grab your bait before most salmon had a chance.

This is very convenient for those living in the Seattle-area, especially during the Coho run. Not even 10 minutes of sailing and you are on the fish. Very much worth it.

It was fun but once it rained it got very cold. The fish were not biting very much at this time. I believe a later warmer time of year would have been better as far as catching fish. The trip itself was very fun.

If you are planing to drift the river on your own its advisable to fish with a guide until you learn the river as it does have some rough spots. There is some bank access and the local folks are friendly and fun to fish around.

Capt. Paul lead us on an epic adventure. I took a work colleague out on his boat. We got out on the water on a beautiful day. Capt. Paul was on time, well prepared and a pleasure to spend the day with. His joy for fishing and the water is contagious. A truly authentic PNW experience. Can’t wait to get out there again!

We planned this trip for a long time. Me and my boyfriend never had a guided tour before. We were praying for no rain and we had that, but we didn’t catch any salmon, Jim used all of his “magic” tricks and we fished at multiple spots. Despite all that, we had a wonderful time with Jim. He entertained us with amazing stories and kept up with my boyfriend “s 1000’s of questions. We definitely will schedule some other trip with him soon,

Jim is an amazing guide! From providing step by step instructions on how to best cast, teaching us about his rigs, to keeping us entertained the whole 8 hours, Jim was great company for this trip. Despite going home empty handed (the Steelhead were being difficult lol) we are excited to book another trip with Jim to give Steelhead another go! Thank you Jim, looking forward to our next trip!

Captain Miller was a great guide and instructor. He was very patient with us (I'm very much a novice to river fishing) and made sure we had every opportunity to catch a fish. We, unfortunately, were unlucky and didn't bring in any keepers, but we had a good time nonetheless. I would definitely go on this trip again with Capt. Miller.

Knowledgeable, great communicator, fun, great boat all made for an enjoyable day. Jim had us in a position to have line in the water the whole day. Tangled, another pole ready. Can’t catch if not in the water. Day flew by, walked away knowing more and meeting a terrific captain. We will come back for more!
