Tarpon Fishing in Islamorada FL
You can count on great Tarpon fishing action in Islamorada year-round. The whole Keys area holds some of the best opportunities in Florida, and Islamorada, being in the middle, offers access to deep water channels that run between the islands and host large silver kings.
Tarpon migrate through these waters April through May, so this time frame marks the peak season, but March through September will be great months to target them. The average fish you can catch will be from 80 to 150lbs.
Other months will still be productive, but fish will be smaller. Best fishing spots are around channels, bridges, or up in the Everglades National Park. Optimal catching occurs in flats from 2ft to 11ft of water, and spotting schools of Tarpon with 50 to 100 fish is a regularity. In the backcountry, you can see laid up tarpon - these guys are sitting still on the surface, which gives you room to practice your cast.
Captain Matt with Bamboo Charters knows where the big ones are and will put you on them!
