If you’d like to explore Wisconsin’s vast fishery, Racine Salmon fishing is one of the best ways to do it. Located right on Lake Michigan, Racine has access to exhilarating fishing action any time of year.
From April to October, Lake Michigan is a favorite destination among freshwater anglers. This is mostly due to the abundance of freshwater game fish that taste as good as they fight. Coho and Chinook Salmon were introduced to the lake at the end of the '60s and they’ve been thriving there ever since.
The Salmon bite starts in late April and has two peaks – in July and August, and then later again in September and October. Both the summer run and fall run are very productive, but the fall is the time to get those lunkers on board.
In September and October, these gorgeous fish will disperse upstream to spawn and you can catch a Salmon that weighs 20–30 pounds, sometimes even more. The most successful way to target Salmon is trolling files and spoons in 30–100' waters. If you’re fishing with a local captain, they’ll know exactly where to go and what to do to put you on that bite.
Aside from the prolific Lake Michigan, the Root River also has a solid Salmon bite during the season. You can try your luck and your hand in both, just remember to bring your fishing license with a Salmon stamp with you, because that’s the only thing that your guide won’t provide. Everything else, including the gear, the boat, and expert advice are provided on your charter.
