Salmon fishing in British Columbia, Canada is famous for big runs and wild scenery. Cold Pacific waters and glacier-fed rivers draw Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Pink, and Chum each year. Anglers come for hard fights, rich variety, and a real chance at a trophy Chinook.

Guides use proven methods that match local waters. Offshore and nearshore trolling with downriggers puts baits at the right depth. Mooching, which means slow-drifting a cut herring, is popular around structure and bait schools. In rivers, drift fishing and float fishing keep your gear in the strike zone. Fly fishing with swung flies shines when Salmon hold in softer seams.

Most charters are half day to full day with an early start. Captains supply rods, reels, tackle, and safety gear, and often clean your catch. Expect cool mornings, quick weather shifts, and steady action when the tide turns. Wear layered clothing, non-slip shoes, and bring snacks, sun protection, and motion-sickness tablets if needed. Beginners, families, and seasoned anglers all do well with clear guidance from the crew.

Top areas include the east and west coasts of Vancouver Island, from Campbell River to Port Hardy, Ucluelet, and Tofino. The Strait of Georgia and Juan de Fuca Strait offer strong marine bites. Up north, Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert are known for consistent Salmon. Famous rivers like the Fraser, Skeena, and Kitimat see solid returns and good bank and boat access.

Before your trip, check current rules for licenses, Salmon stamps, seasons, and daily harvest. Some areas require barbless hooks or selective retention. Regulations change by species and zone, and catch-and-release may apply. Your captain will help you stay compliant.

    (HOG-tober Fest! - 6hr Halibut Trip)

    Great trip!

Had a good trip with Captain Andrew, we managed to snag ourselves a really nice halibut! We unfortunately weren’t able to go salmon trolling on the way back due to some equipment issues. It was a special request that they tried to accommodate. Would definitely book again.

    CAN'T BEAT THIS CHARTER!!

My husband and I booked a 5 hour trip. We met with Captain Robert and promptly set out at 6 a.m. Robert is a great guy who knows his fishing and has a very well equipped boat. The scenery was unbeatable and we caught 7 salmon ( and missed a few). We enjoyed it so much that we extended our time for another hour. Upon return Robert cleaned the fish and fed the waste to the seals under the dock. It was a very unique experience. We highly recommend East Coaster Fishing and will be back!
