If you’re in the Old Line State and looking to fish the Atlantic, there’s nowhere better to be than Ocean City. Leave the famous boardwalk behind and hop aboard an Ocean City Tuna fishing charter. Not only is it the best offshore port in MD, you could argue that it’s one of the best on the whole east coast. Head offshore and discover a world of tough, strong, and delicious fish.

What to Expect

Tuna fishing in the Atlantic is a serious sport. Despite the season running from June through September, you can still expect choppy waters to test your nerves. Make sure to have your sea legs ready before going after Tuna in the open oceans.

While Ocean City has some of the shortest runs north of the Outer Banks, you’ll still need to head a good way offshore to find the bite of Bluefins and Yellowfins. The “Jackspot,” just 21 miles offshore may not be that deep, but it can still attract a healthy number of Tuna who’ve strayed from the real depths. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to target Tuna on an 8-hour charter out into the Atlantic.

Most captains prefer to spend a minimum of 10 hours on the water when targeting Tuna. Hit the Baltimore Canyon 70 miles offshore, or head to the continental shelf around 100 miles out.

Aboard a spacious offshore sport fishing boat, you’ll have all you need for a productive day on the water. Your experienced captain and first mate will set up plenty of trolling lines in the water. Get ready to attract the bite of monster Bluefins and Yellowfins, among many more.

Sit back and enjoy the ride in comfort while the lines do the work, before leaping into action when the reels start to screech. You’d better be quick, as these warm-blooded fish will dive deep when they know they’ve been caught. You’ll have an almighty fight on your hands to get them back up and to the boat, which will make the taste of victory at the end of the day even sweeter.

How to Prepare

Before going Tuna fishing in Ocean City, there’s not a lot for you to do. Your charter operator will cover your fishing license,  and everything else you need will be waiting for you on board. Just make sure to bring plenty of drinks and snacks to make yourself at home, protect against the elements, and settle in for a thrilling day’s fishing.

Are you ready? Get the pulses racing with an Ocean City Tuna fishing charter!

Just make sure you’re going out when the tide is in and the bay water is clear, or go out a bit and catch stripers.

First timers would love this place to fish. Most Captain's are on one mission. For you to have fun. Never had a bad experience in OC Maryland. Some better than others but always great.

Listen to the Captain, if he does not think it makes sense to go out, reschedule. We were lucky, and had a nice weather day.

Take trip for sea bass easy first time catch, good eating, lots of fun. Don't judge the trip by the size of the boat but the history of the captain.

If you're not used to being on a boat, bring dramamine, sun screen, and dress (in layers) for 10-15 degrees colder than the expected temperature and let the captain and mate do their job.
