I Gaunatuna,but I'll settle for any fish

May 20, 2017

I Gauna Tuna, but I'll settle for any fish. My party and I have little to no fishing experience, however, we wanted to set out on a fishing "adventure" while in PV. I contacted PV Hook up by email… Read Full Report →

Capt Scooby was very accommodating and convinced us to upgrade out 6 hour trip to 8 hours to allow us to go out further. He had no fish finder (said it was recently stolen) and at least one of the spinning reels on board was in poor condition. All the rest of the tackle was good. We saw lots of whales, dolphins, and schools of tuna breaking the surface, but were unable to land any tuna (one was hooked, but lost due to fisherman error). We did catch three Spanish mackerel for eating, and also two bonita. On the way back in we ran across a school of bait fish running away from something, and very quickly hooked three Jack Cravalle. They were powerful fighters as advertised, and were the highlight of our trip. The mate cleaned our fish on the way back in, and we were able to leave quickly after docking.

Boat clean and in good repair. Crew friendly and knowledgeable. Boat handling very good for 38’. 5 mackerel in30 minutes. Nothing after. Sail lounging at surface. Tried casting but no interest in bait. Couple of quick strikes on poles but fish did not match on. Couple of skip jack schools but no bites. I think we were hungrier than the fish.

We boarded early and set out immediately to fish. They say it is best early. We pulled in 10 Mackerels, and all four of us caught and reeled
The most exciting thing to happen were the large school of porpoise and the closeness Captain Cesar was to them as they played.
Then, whales came up right by the boat, and put on a great show for us.
The whole Trip was a very good event.

The trip was okay, friendly staff but having to bring your own food was a pain. All of our family got sick but that’s not anyone’s fault.

Thanks for taking the time to review our fishing charter. Yes food and drinks are not included in charter price but can be provided if requested 72 hrs before your charter. A cooler with ice is always on the boat and included in charter price.
thanks again for fishing with the PV Hook Up.

Not a bite. Encouraged to 8 hours so increase probability of catching fish. Nothing! Supposed to be high season for fishing. Boat not what I expected from photos. Plan to go back and see if it is photos of the boat we got.

My son and i have fished deep sea probably 10 times. We are passionate, fun loving, yet fat from expert enthusiasts. Our goal this trip included dads 20 year long bucket list fish , The Roosterfish and my son was looking for Tuna. We booked 2 days with Macarela in Pierto Vallarta and they were awesome : El Capitan, Chava & Jesus. Super nice and professional. Day one we slayed 3roosters,8 spanish mackeral( which became dinner and ceviche) , snapper, “green"fish, needle fish as long as 5 ft,, bonita and huge Jack Cravalle, about 39 fish on day one, Day 2 would start at 2am just 8 hrs later on a 5 hr ride to an incredible spot for tuna and marlin, saw one marlin early but he wasnt intetested, slow morning was take up with cold beer, cuban cigars, ceviche fron yeaturday and lots of laughs and fish stories. Approx 11:45 we started seeing huge bird activity chasing “bait balls” formed by schools of tune-porpoises wewe everywhere it was very cool to see nature in this way. We hooked up on 3 major tunas . Tuna 1 was dads turn- 2 hrs later i handed thevrod to my son in total exhaustion( this was caught in light tackle w/25lb line, after fresh arms and legs the 100lber was at the boat when an 8 fiot bullshark bit our tuna and promptly remived 30%, the crew swiftly got another lune in and Luke was ON with the 8ft bull- 20 min later he was boatside and took the gaf woth him as a perting present. Tuna # 2 was all Luke 70ld in about 20 min- God Bless the young! Our last hookup was our largest of the day 150 lber again on light tackle and another epic battle ensued for 2+ hours of repeated switch offs and swift diving by the crew , we got her alongside the back of the boat, this was an inadvertant catch and release but it WAS glorious! Thank you Macarela fir the trip of a lifetime,
Frank and Luke Trilla
Bookem if you can get them!
I hope to add more photos when we review “GoPro” footage

Had a great time.

Chaba and Caesar were great, explained what kind of fish we were trying to catch and showed how set up the poles. Caught 31 Bonito.

Had great fish dinner when we returned back to the condo and fish tacos the next day.

Will do again when we can fit it in.
