Yesterday had a 3 hr father son and fishing was tough. Had a couple nice bites and landed one nice Pacific Halibut. The water was 72 degrees which is perfect but some strong currents pushed the fish into hiding. Tomorrow is a new day- literally every hour of fishing out here can be completely different as is the weather. Fish on compadres!

Probably the biggest hooked fish- probably a 500lb+ mako shark. Never breached- never saw it- maybe a White. Reel never stopped peeling line and screaming big fish! At one point after chasing the fish with the boat and fish on our line the client paused for 5 seconds for his buddy to take the Ballon off the tip of the pole- DO NOT DO THAT. Keep reeling- keep the line really really tight - any slack and a beast will shake, turn and snap the line- we lost this one due to client doing something I was yelling from up top" keep reeling- dont stop" The balloon will not hinder your reeling in. Customer stopped reel8ng for 5 seconds and thats all the piweful beast needed to make hus move. We lost the beast so he is still lurking. We caught dozens of Bass, Barracuda and One Bonito. The next trip the Bonito came in thick- every cast and nice size. I love Bonito seared or raw sushi style. Its in the tuna family and good eats if its cleaned properly and eaten same day- tasty. * experienced anglers typically catch more * we lose alot of fish and don't even hook them when they bite because of lack of experience

Had about a 45 minute wide open Calico and Barracuda bite today- wide open. We got live bait today. Since the tsunami last week that busted the bait barge they have not had live bait 2 different days so we use the same other stuff we always use anyways-when that happens- commercial grade chum buckets, frozen squid, makeral we catch, lures and jigs -they all work great. If you are reading reports to go out in the next few days the bait barge may not have live bait. We do not know what you are going to catch because fish schools migrate, water temps and currents change and fishing turns on and off like a light switch. I can tell you that we are in peak season and fishing has been great for the most part. We have some bad days where fish will not cooperate and no matter what you do to try and catch fish they just will not bite. If you can't go into a fishing charter with the attitude that you have lived long enough to know that a bad day fishing can't get in the way of a great day then RockenReel is not for you. We can not guarantee fish. We can guarantee safe vessels with knowledgeable Captains that will not ever try to take advantage of you on purpose. If the fish are biting we got you covered! The ROCKENREEL had 3 charters today. This morning's bite started out with a nice Barracuda on the first cast immediately. The third catch was a nice White Sea Bass followed by a couple dozen more Calico Bass, one Sand Bass and a ton of big Barracuda. Tomorrow Captain Noah is scouting Catalina for 10 hours on the Scarab and I'm targeting Big Makos on a 10 hour and I will drop for Swordfish followed by a local twilight trip for WSB. Fish on.

Last night the local Bass Bite was wide open. Today water started out blue the went green. 67-69 degrees today 69.4 high. We had a tough 12 hr and stayed out 2 hours longer-14 hrs for a couple small makeral and a Bonito at Catalina. Q4 mile bank was quiet . 267 was quiet. Out front it was slow. The scarab has a 5 hr 6am-11 am fir 2 Calico Bass. I talked to a few other guys on the radio and when I got back. Everyone just shook their head- thats fishing. We tried everything shuts off as quick as it turns back on. There is always tomorrow! One of our local stick boats landed a 450 and 340 swordfish today. I witnessed the second catch from our boat and it was epic. My buddy saw 3 4-5 foot makos this morning on his way to the 267 where nobody was home. I hit the 14 mile bank 2 times today and Nada. THE STICK NOAT CAPTAIN SAID HE SAW A BIG BIG BIG MAKO OUT FRONT TODAY.
