Finally the wind and cold fronts of March have left us and the fishing is really heating up. Fished with Rob and his wife Lynette yesterday and caught a little bit of everything. Started out the morning working some shallow potholes in 2-3 feet of water. We were able to find some hungry trout and pulled a nice 23โ€ gator trout to the boat! After we were done harassing the speckled trout we moved on to locate some big snook. Man we got on them good ! The first bait in the water got slammed and boom Lynette had a big snook on! That fish spit the hook but no worries a few cast later Rob landed a beautiful 33โ€ snook that he sight casted in just a foot of water. Then Lynette got a second opportunity at one and yanked another 33โ€ snook out of the mangroves like a pro!! We got to watch a few more 40โ€ plus snook swim right by the boat by unfortunately they werenโ€™t hungry. Great start to April in the waters of Sanibel !!

The Snook fishing is on fire right now ! With water temps steadily increasing the big snook are starting to show up around the creek mouths and mangrove shorelines from Fort Myers beach to Boca Grande. Capt Tyler boated this 35lb 44 inch snook this past week in Pine Island Sound. His clients have had multiple opportunities to land one of these beasts throughout the week. If weather patternes continue it will definetly be a snook season for the books. Booking dates are filling up fast so book your trip while you still can !!!!!

Had a great day on the water with John and his grandson Wil. We started off fishing some mangrove creeks where we were able to hook up to a few snook in the 25-28 inch range. As the sun began to climb higher, we moved to a sandy bottom area in about 2ft if water in hopes of sight casting some giant snook. After a few adrenaline pumping attempts at throwing baits to some huge fish we were unable to entice a bite and moved to the next spot. It was here that John was able to drop back a live threadfin herring and connect with a 35โ€ Snook! Great fish John!

The redfish have really been chewing lately. Not only are they hungry but they are huge as well ! This was a good thing as the morning started out slow with only a few small snook. These cooler water temps can really turn the snook bite off. However, we switched gears and targeted redfish and we sure got into them. Putting 10 redfish in the boat that were all over 30โ€ !!!

Had the opportunity to participate in project healing waters out of South Seas Island Resort Wednesday and Thursday. Well the first day was a bust, high winds a cold temps kept us from leaving the dock. However, we did manage to get out on Thursday. The wind was still blowing 20 out of the north and the temperature was in the 60s but we toughed out the conditions and we're rewarded with a dozen nice Snook! Cold temperatures like these can really shut the Snook bite off. We started by working couple deeper mangrove shorelines. These are areas Snook will typically move to when water temps begin to drop. It wasn't long before we found some hungry fish and were able to pull some solid Snook out of the mangroves !
