I am a Ph.D. Research Marine Biologist with over 40+ years of fishing, boating, and research experience. I have been successfully fishing oceans, lakes, and rivers all over the world and here in Tennessee for the past 5 years.
Techniques
One of my favorite fishing techniques involves trolling with planer boards with both live and artificial baits. I find that this method produces a better quantity, quality, and variety of species. Generally it allows me to have up to 6 simultaneous bait presentations which means more fish in the boat for you!! When the situation calls for it, I also rely upon jigging and casting strategies.

The crappie bite on Chickamauga today was strong early, but all but shutdown mid-morning. Marked lots of fish on brushpiles in 13-20 FOW, but even minnows didn't trigger a bite. Very hot and muggy and not a breath of wind. Water temps were 80-82 degrees at the surface.

Was hot on Chickamauga today, but anything is better than the heavy rain and gusty winds we've had lately. The surface water temperature is 80 degrees and beginning to clear. A five species day, including a few nice crappie.

Finally got a break in what has been a bad stretch of weather on Lake Chickamauga. Landed 29 crappie today; unfortunately lots of small fish mixed in . Water temperature was 72 degrees and the fish were taken either trolling or tightlining over brushpiles.

Rained all day, but there was none of the infernal wind we've been dealing with lately. Jerry and Jay had a good day and are looking forward to fishing with me again tomorrow. In addition to the crappie, we took two nice-sized channel cats which we released. Water temperature was 69 and all fish were taken from 10-15 depths over 20-25 FOW. Fish were equally taken on crappie jigs and crankbaits.
