Estuaries are definitely quiet in the winter in August, however reef and topwater are good as always. If you were looking to fish the estuary, book for summer months in February and March, where you can legally keep the barramundi's while also hooking a good amount of them

Brodie definitely knew where the fish were . We caught so many Barra and were totally impressed . He helped and advised us on all
Aspects and any questions were answered . Will definately recommend. A great day out

Be prepared for all types of weather and that any catch is a good catch. We went in May and this day was cloudy and the temp had dropped.
It was an estuary morning half day trip, I caught a Blue Salmon..other species caught on the trip were Trevally, Mangrove Jack and Grunter.
So although the dream was of a Barramundi...just remember to enjoy the thrill, the company and that each day brings a different catch!

If you are planning to take cached fish back, ensure you make arrangements to transport it in the car. You may not get good bags and blood may drip from the given bags to take the the catch home at the end of the trip.

If you are looking to catch a descent fish in cairns just head out to the reef, if you have people with you that are a bit unsure about the open ocean you can still have plenty of fun catching smaller fish in the inlet.

Check with the captain whether the fishing will start immediately or if you will be spending, time for which you paid, watching the crew member catching the bait.

Just listen to Rory, he’s the local…he has the knowledge and hopefully nature let’s to get a decent hook up!

Absolutely he is very helpful and insightful. He knows the river like the back of his hand and always has some help information on whatever you need!

Note: the link to the location of the boat is wrong. It showed the Cairns marina (where snorkel boats leave from).

The conditions were perfect - not too hot and it is a beautiful part of the world.
I just wish a few more fish hopped on the hooks.
Michael Petersen
Yes the best. Captain Jacob is there from the start to finish and knows the local fishing area from the back of his hand.
Adrian Colbrook
A captain who is friendly and gets you on the fish. We caught more than other boats. I had an amazing day. 10 fish in all 5 different species.
Kate Dandridge
Go and hire some fishing rods, we did this after a day on a charter after catching nothing and caught a lot of fish off the local warfs and off the rocks

Great way to see the inlet & fish whatever the tide. You might see a crocodile. Minimal travel time.

Contact Gone Fishing and discuss the best time to go if you are trying to catch a particular species. And remember, catching fish cannot be guaranteed, but you can still have fun trying.

Book a private charter with one that caters to your numbers. Highly recommend Gone Fishing charter. I think they can take up to 8 but check that

Yes, the boat was a good size, large enough for suitable room for each fisherman. Crew were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The fish just didn't want to bite for us.

Give this charter boat a call or book online as I did and you will be surely impressed and more than likely catch a fish or two and decent size / variety.

This short trip is great value for money and an easy way to get on the water to catch fish.
