Take some Dramamine in July for salmon because the boats go past the mouth of the river where the swells can be high. Use the restroom before you go out. Bring sunscreen. I recommend a rain jacket and waterproof clothing for attire. You will get a little wet. If you are traveling by air and intend to bring fish fillets back home, you can put fillets in Ziploc freezer bags and get dry ice to freeze the fillets overnight. Put them in a cooler bag when you prepare to go to the airport along with some Ziplocs full of regular ice (Airlines don't like dry ice. Freeze in dry ice the night before you leave so it will evaporate leaving you with frozen fillets.) You can then put them in either your checked or carry on luggage. No problem with this method for TSA and American Airlines. Nothing beats the taste of fresh caught salmon. It's worth it.

Fishing in early summer is a roll of the dice with weather. Excellent Sturgeon fishing in the main river, but conditions in the afternoon can be a little choppy to do salmon or rockfish. Come prepared with waterproof clothing and sunscreen as necessary.

If you want some quiet time fishing this isnt the right choice for you. Hundreds of boats, lots of people and noise. Get the fish out as fast as you can, lots of commentary by the guide to prevent the different rods tangling. If its a native you must release asap, not even time for a picture. Generally quite stressful for my taste.

I recommend booking with Robert Vernon; Out Fishin and be prepared together wet! Bring all weather gear. There is storage on the boat.

Fishing in July is a great balance between catching fish but not being too crowded with the number of boats in the water.

We were there and the weather was windy so it was hard to catch any fish. But, our guide was awesome and tried very hard to make it happen

Take lots of layers of clothing, including rain gear, and sun screen. Weather can change quickly on the river. A sunny day on land, may be chilly out on the water. Great fishing out of Astoria.

Catching salmon is technically difficult. Listen to your guide and you will make less mistakes
