What would you recommend to anglers fishing in South Portland, Maine for the first time?

We had an incredible day out on the water with Captain Robert! Even though we didn’t catch the shark we were hoping for, he made the trip unforgettable. He took the time to show us around, shared his knowledge of the area, and pointed out wildlife we never would’ve spotted on our own — including a beautiful osprey. We even got to catch lobster, which was such a fun and unexpected highlight! His professionalism, friendliness, and passion for what he does really shine through. You can tell he genuinely loves giving people a memorable experience. If you’re thinking about booking a fishing trip, I highly recommend going with Captain Robert. You’ll walk away with great memories - and MAYBE even dinner! ?

Make sure to check ahead of time what the fishing is like. We happened to book our trip when fishing wasn’t that great, no fault of our captains. He did a great job putting us where the fish were, we just didn’t land any fish.

We should have waited for warmer water when stripers were biting. But we also lucked out on perfect weather for the first wonderful saturday in 15 weeks. No nibbles but the ride around Casco bay was beautiful.

We experienced exceptionally warm weather for the time of year. I'd plan on spending some time exploring the surrounding area and town, it's a neat place to explore.

September has some beautiful weather but dress warmly as it cools quickly when you get off the coast!

Just remember that fishing takes patience and not every trip gets a catch! Take the whole experience in and make the memories because there’s always something to be grateful for!

Book this lobster trip! It is not fishing - we pulled 5 traps around the bay, which is the legal max.

Talk to the Capt. in advance and discuss your level of experience and targeted fish so he can offer best advice for a successful experience

Be prepared for a great experience - enjoy the nature and if you are lucky you will catch some striped bass and other incredible fish.

not recommended in june, never fished there before but it wasn't a good time and we didn't get any keepers. Caught one each for a six hour trip. it was very disappointing.

Bring sunscreen and sun glasses. Everything else is provided. Just fish and enjoy!
