Check ahead with the captain to be sure the fish you are looking for will be where they can be reached by the boat before you make your reservations. They may not be where you want them. For example, the salmon we hoped for were mostly in the creeks and stream where we couldn't get at them. In our case we were happy to go after steelhead instead, but if you are absolutely set on one type of fish, make sure they will be available. Don't be afraid to put off your trip for another time if the fish you want won't be there. The charter captains would rather have you decide not to go when you intended than to go with them and be disappointed. You can always find a way to change the charter to a time when you can get what you want.

Weather just eliminated our original plans for salmon fishing and bass fishing with a shut off bite due to weather was an attempt to salvage something. Tough pill to swallow that was not the fault of our captain and beyond his control.

Olcott is a small friendly town. Walk around, enjoy the sun, and speak with the locals..... if you want to get a feel for current fishing conditions. I spoke with a few guys at The Time Out Bar & Grill and Big Fatties. Everyone was friendly and had good things to say about Captain Kurt (Stalker Charters). We caught a bunch of fish and had a great time. We were in shorts & t-shirts the entire time. Weather was perfect. Not a bad idea to bring a hoodie or long pants just in case.

The fishing at Olcott has been very good. The salmon have been staying in the Olcott area and are hitting with some consistency. Last summer and so far in 2019, fishing has been the best it has been in years. First time fishermen will be surprised at how strong the salmon are and the tremendous, drag-screaming runs by these fish.

Salmon fishing is not walleye fishing you're not going to catch fish every 5 minutes the fish you catch though are far superior

The King Salmon were biting, so 11 of our 12 fish were those, but our 11-year-old also caught a nice Lake Trout.

Pick an experanced Captian like Captian Anthony Ellis who has the right equiptment and knowhow to put you on the fish and ask his advice if you are not sure what to do He will be a big help.

Looks like a very productive fishery. Got bag limit well before charter expired. Loved it.

Wind can pick up quickly and create tough conditions. Overall great experience.
