Well there's not much to say other than the Chinook and Coho fishery in local waters is on! The Harrison and Chilliwack white Chinooks have arrived right on schedule after most of the red Chinooks have made their way up the Fraser River. This next wave of fish are the large variety and can easily hit the tyee class. We are fishing Sandheads, T-10 and North Arm for these brutes. Anchovies and Herring in chartreuse, green glow, UV or black/white teaser heads matched with green or chartreuse colored flashers. The extended summer sunny weather has helped because the fish are staging versus making a beeline right up the river when they get a scent of freshwater from the rain. The other targeted area is the Capilano River run of returning Chinook and Coho salmon. This area is very popular as you are often out of the wind and tends to resemble fishing in a Costco parking lot. We run only 1 rod off each downrigger as the fish tend to hold right on the bottom. Again, anchovy and herring is the bait of choice. Let's Go Fishing!

Well we have been under a smoky haze for more than a month now from the interior forest fires. Just over the past 3 days, the smoke has all cleared up and we can see our beautiful mountains and city landscape again. It looks like Chinook fishing has really picked up over the last few days as many of us guides are finding 20+ lb slabs near the Bell Buoy, North Arm, Sandheads and T-10. Hopefully this will continue as in the past years well into September. Coho and Pink salmon have been found along the West Vancouver waterfront from Point Atkinson to Ambleside. A wide variety of gear using herring, anchovy, glow hootchies in a variety of colors and spoons are being used. Each day is a quest to figure out what they want, but then that's fishing. "Let's Go Fishing!"

Well our summer has arrived and with the sun and warmth, the NW winds have been hampering our fishing opportunities. Getting across the Strait to Porlier Pass, Thrasher Rock or Entrance Island is either very lumpy and not for the weak of stomach or just not worth the effort. It may be only 17 miles but it'll feel like you are in an episode of the Deadliest Catch. Fishing in calmer waters means heading for into Horseshoe Bay or other protected Howe Sound areas. Fishing the Howe Sound is a tad early as the Cheakamus and Squamish River chinooks don't show up till 1st week in July, but you never know if there is still a lingering winter feeder chinook around. We have been fishing close to the south end of Bowen Island between Roger Curtis and Cowan Points. Grinding it out there usually pays off in a salmon or two. A variety of Gibbs Delta spoons in the Skinny G patterns have been the ticket over bait lately. Commercial prawning just finished up so it'll be a few months before this sustainable fishery recovers and we will be dropping the traps again. Commercial crabbing just started 8 days ago and they basically scooped up all the legal size crab in our target areas. Again, it'll be months before any of the prawn or crab traps see water.

It's mid May and the fishing has really been good in all areas. The trick is to be there when the salmon are around. It may sound obvious but that's fishing. There has been some spectacular days in the Horseshoe Bay to Sunset Marina and over at Grace Islands in the lower portion of Howe Sound. There is lots of small anchovy in the waters and matching the bait has produced very well and oddly enough, spoons have worked equally as well. My go to teaser heads have been the Rhys Davis green glo and UV green with Gibbs Delta Guide Series flashers. I'm getting awesome reports on the south end of Bowen Island off Cowan Point and off Roger Curtis Point down 80' - 90' using anchovy, Irish Creme and Cop Car spoons. The QA has also been consistent on hootchies, bait and spoons. Over at Thrasher (way off shore in **hidden content**') has produced on a consistent basis to epic fishing running hootchies, spoons and plugs. The only complaint is the huge algae bloom everywhere and some areas much worse than others. The algae sticks to your fishing line and your literally have to pick off the line to reel in. This is very challenging when you are playing a fish. It's quite nerve racking yet comical to see two people picking away at the algae while the third is hanging onto the rod. Let's Go Fishing!
