June Fishing Report
June Fishing Report
June 20, 2020
Well summer is finally here and it should be an awesome month for fishing in June. Finally, the seas are calming down and we've been able to do some comfortable offshore fishing. The last week of May was fabulous with most of the trips limiting out on their keeper slot snook at Sebastian Inlet before the season ended on June 1st. The snook were literally hitting anything we through at them, as far as live bait goes. Croakers, pigfish, pinfish, threadfins, pilchards, and shrimp seemed to all be on the snooks menu those days. We ended May with a solid offshore trip catching mahi, kingfish, bonita, snapper, and amberjack. From what I heard the first week of June was a bust with constant rain and thunderstorms every day. Fortunately for me I took off the first week of June and went to Oklahoma for some catfish noodling which I have to say was one of the coolest but also one of the scariest things I've ever done. Since I've been back we've done a few offshore trips that have really produced. There are numerous amounts of kingfish all around the reefs. One of my customers pulled in a 40 lb plus kingfish the other day on a threadfin herring. The mahi are also all over the place too. We've been catching them from 70 ft and out to 250 ft with a mix of kingfish and bonita, while trolling ballyhoo and strip baits. The best way to go is trolling up and down the reefs and finding weed lines. We also have a lot of luck catching mahi while we're bottom fishing too. When you have the chum bag putting out all that stink, always have a free line ready, cause them green machines will sneak up on you. The bottom fishing has been pretty good as well. Bringing in some nice lane snapper, red grouper, medium sized amberjack, and of course red snapper. They have given us recreational fishermen 4 days this year to harvest red snapper July 10, 11, 12, and 17. I personally don't think that is enough but I don't make the rules. Unfortunately I already have all those days booked up. Even though we can't keep the snook until September 1st the big girls are full up during the summer. It's one heck of a fight to bring in one of those 40" studs. There have also been some big tarpon up and down the beach as well. Also don't forget about those big Goliath grouper. They are in close by the inlet for the summer and should be here up through August. Unfortunately we can't keep them but what an experience it is to pull up a 500 lb fish. Inshore has also been producing a bunch of medium sea trout and smaller sized mangrove snapper too. Well guys and gals, come jump on the boat and try to forget all this nonsense going on in the world. Everyone and anyone is welcome on my boat so lets go have some fun and catch a bunch of fish.

We're Still Running Strong
We're Still Running Strong
May 14, 2020
April has come and gone so now it's time for the seas to give us a break for the summer. I've really been looking forward to the waters becoming a lot calmer now but unfortunately it seems mother nature is doing the opposite right now. May has started off pretty good this past week but the forecast for the upcoming weeks isn't looking to good, wind and wave wise. We've been catching a bunch of under slot snook around 25 inches on small threadfins and pilchards. There have been some decent cubera snapper, and lots of jacks in the inlet, and of course those big monster goliath grouper. If it's calm enough we've been heading out to some of the closer reefs for the first part of the day, catching our limit on lane snapper and having fun pulling in big bonita until the winds start to pick up. There have also been some nice kingfish caught around the reefs while slow trolling live threadfins. Decent size tarpon have also been rolling around inshore as well so looking to start jumping some silver kings here soon and giving the snook a little rest. Grouper season opened up May 1st which made for one crazy busy weekend on the water. I've mostly been booked up doing inshore trips lately from the discount I put out on Facebook for the local Sebastian Inlet fishermen, because of the Covid 19 shutdown of the park, so haven't had much offshore time other than fishing the closer reefs. I have had word that mahi are starting to show up so hopefully they'll be in full swing by the middle of the month. I'm really excited to start trolling for them again. I tell people all the time, trolling can be the most boring thing in the world, but when they hit, all hell breaks loose. Now that we're starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel from this shutdown, hopefully things will get back to normal. Unfortunately I am already completely booked up for May but we do have many days still available in June and July.

April Spring Time Fishing
April Spring Time Fishing
April 15, 2020
April has been a pretty consistent month so far for catching fish. The month started off a little rocky from out of town cancellations due the Covid 19 scare. We did a sweet deal on Facebook for our Sebastian Inlet fishermen since the park is closed and business has taken off. As far as fishing goes, the bite has been pretty good. Bait has been a little tough to find. The big schools of threadfin herring diminished quite a bit and pigs, pins, and croakers have been hard to find in the river. If we get the baits then we get the big girls. We're still getting a few big redfish here and there but they're starting to slow down. The snook bite has been very consistent with some nice slot fish going in the cooler. There are numerous amounts of bluefish on the outgoing tide and big jack crevalle on the incoming tide. There have also been some nice spanish mackerel in and around the inlet as well. Lately, we've lost quite few fish to big sharks and Goliath grouper. Now is the time the Goliaths start to show up at the inlet. There are always some resident Goliaths that hang out there year round but come May, June, and July the big schools of them come in and hang out at the jetty. I like to move up to a heavier action rod to get my snook in faster so the big beasts don't gulp them up. If you want a chance to battle one of these big monsters, that's not a problem, we've got a big boy rod to play with them as well. Haven't did much offshore lately but the few times we've went out has produced some decent size fish. Red snapper and grouper have been the main catches lately along with a bunch of lane snapper. Unfortunately we can't keep the red snapper or grouper yet. I've heard the dolphin/mahi have been starting to show up but they've been way out in the gulf stream. We are completely booked up for April but we still have some days open in May. Everyone stay safe and hopefully we can get things back to normal again.

March Madness
March Madness
March 22, 2020
I've been a little late on my March fishing report but as everyone knows the world has been a little crazy lately. March started off pretty solid with bookings but because of all this pandemic, we've suffered quite a few cancellations in the last week and up through April. Other than that the fishing has been pretty darn good. The weather was pretty harsh on us at the beginning of the month which slowed the bite quite a bit. In the last week or so the weather has been great and the bite has turned on again. We've been catching big snook and big redfish with bluefish and jack crevalle in the mix. A lot of my customers have been fortunate enough to get themselves some solid slot snook to bring home as well. The lagoon has been a little slow with a few small snook and reds. When it's to windy everywhere else we've been heading up Sebastian River catching some monster jack crevalle on light tackle. The tarpon should start showing up in Sebastian River here in the next couple weeks. We've been able to get offshore a few times this month and every trip has been very productive. We're catching numerous amounts of fish from red snapper, mangrove snapper, lane snapper, kingfish, and cobia. The cobia haven't made there way to Sebastian just yet. We've caught a few out on the reefs but from what I've heard they're hitting them good up by Port Canaveral right now. I have a lot of openings in April right now so give us call. As long as the gas stations stay open, Whatever Turns U On Fishing Charters will be running strong.

End of February Fishing Report
End of February Fishing Report
February 26, 2020
Well, it hasn't changed much with the weather since January but as usual we are still catching. It's been tough, the water temps have been good some days then down in the low 60's in the lagoon other days. The winds and waves have been great some days and then blowing like a mini hurricane other days. This is the time of year and uncontrollable mother nature that drive a fishing guide nuts. Every trip, we all want our customers to catch a bunch of fish and land that monster trophy but sometimes there's just not enough time in the day to find them. That being said my clients have had some good luck despite the weather these last couple months. The main focus has been Sebastian Inlet since the river has been kinda dead lately from the water temps. I've seen some other guides having some decent luck with tripletail but I haven't really targeted them myself. It's been a 50/50 shot in the lagoon so most days we end up at the inlet. We're still catching some big bull redfish and some big snook when the tides and waves cooperate. While bait fishing for croakers in the ocean we're catching a lot of weakfish, bluefish, and some Spanish mackerel to fill the cooler. Inside the inlet we're catching a lot of small to medium size jack crevalle while drifting. Jacks are great for the kids and adults on light tackle. One of my customers last week caught 25 jacks in about an hour and absolutely loved it. They are pound for pound the best fighting fish. A lot of locals just call them junk fish but recently I've had a lot of customers who actually love to eat jacks. Moving on, fiddler crabs have been hard to find at the bait shops so small shrimp has been the go to for the sheepshead but getting past those little mangrove snapper has been frustrating. Haven't done any offshore runs this month so can't really chime in on that yet but what I do know is the cobia should be coming in full force within the next few weeks. March is normally a windy month as well so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that it won't be to bad. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me for open days, fishing reports, etc...

Rough Water Reds
Rough Water Reds
February 7, 2020
Windy, rainy, cold, and rough is what has been going on the beginning of February. We've had a few real nice days but it's mostly been the typical winter season. It's been tough catching fish but it has paid off for the one's who want to put in the time and patience. If the ocean isn't to rough, we're still catching those big bull reds along with a few nice sized snook at Sebastian Inlet out around the jetty. The bluefish have also shown up and that means we go through a lot of baits. They aren't monster blues but they can make a decent meal. If the ocean is to rough, we've fished the inside of the inlet and done very well on 15" to 18" spotted seatrout and some smaller flounder. Also, you can't forget about those tasty sheepshead too. We've been catching some decent amounts of sheepshead as well around the bridges on fiddler crabs. The key thing to fishing in the wind is just being able to find some cover in an area that produces. Again being that the weather has been so crappy, the offshore trips are very limited to select days. If you're booking an offshore trip this time of year, I would suggest leaving a couple days to move around so you could switch days if that's possible for you. Fishing wise for offshore though, there have been some cobia starting to show up already and we're also getting some keeper kingfish and mangrove snapper hanging on the reefs, not to mention the "endangered" red snapper. We should have an excellent spring though and I am very excited to chase the rays around for cobia when they show up. If you have any questions about trips or what we're catching feel free to give us a call.
