Well, it hasn't changed much with the weather since January but as usual we are still catching. It's been tough, the water temps have been good some days then down in the low 60's in the lagoon other days. The winds and waves have been great some days and then blowing like a mini hurricane other days. This is the time of year and uncontrollable mother nature that drive a fishing guide nuts. Every trip, we all want our customers to catch a bunch of fish and land that monster trophy but sometimes there's just not enough time in the day to find them. That being said my clients have had some good luck despite the weather these last couple months. The main focus has been Sebastian Inlet since the river has been kinda dead lately from the water temps. I've seen some other guides having some decent luck with tripletail but I haven't really targeted them myself. It's been a 50/50 shot in the lagoon so most days we end up at the inlet. We're still catching some big bull redfish and some big snook when the tides and waves cooperate. While bait fishing for croakers in the ocean we're catching a lot of weakfish, bluefish, and some Spanish mackerel to fill the cooler. Inside the inlet we're catching a lot of small to medium size jack crevalle while drifting. Jacks are great for the kids and adults on light tackle. One of my customers last week caught 25 jacks in about an hour and absolutely loved it. They are pound for pound the best fighting fish. A lot of locals just call them junk fish but recently I've had a lot of customers who actually love to eat jacks. Moving on, fiddler crabs have been hard to find at the bait shops so small shrimp has been the go to for the sheepshead but getting past those little mangrove snapper has been frustrating. Haven't done any offshore runs this month so can't really chime in on that yet but what I do know is the cobia should be coming in full force within the next few weeks. March is normally a windy month as well so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that it won't be to bad.
