Trip Summary
On December 9th we had two buddies join us for a 6 hour fishing tour starting at 7:00 am. The morning began with trolling along the reef line and over some of our favorite spots, but despite working different depths and changing lures a few times, the bite was very quiet and we didn’t have much luck on the troll.
After talking with the anglers, we decided to change the game plan and switch over to jigging and bottom fishing to make the most of the conditions. That decision paid off quickly: while jigging they hooked into a huge amberjack that put up an intense fight, with long powerful runs before finally coming to the boat, giving them an awesome catch and great photos.
After landing the amberjack, we moved to bottom fishing over structure and started getting steady action with triggerfish, keeping the rods bent and the anglers busy. In the end, even though the trolling was slow at the start, the switch to jigging and bottom fishing turned the day around and made for a fun, productive trip on the water.
